I ran out out of battery for the first time, 5 miles from home after a rainy 45 degree day on the freeway zapped my energy. I got to a EVgo 50kw with 0-1% remaining. I couldn’t get it to work so I called the hotline and he said I need a minimum of 10% for it to start. Is this common across all level 3 chargers?

I was able to limp it to a level 2 in an industrial area 2 blocks away. They were locked for the night so I ditched it until the next morning. My FordPass gave me a theft-frunk-opening warning overnight, but the truck was fine when I got there.

LOL I have nightmares about this very thing.. that's a bad day. Good questions, I think.

That sounds super frustrating... have two legit charging options and neither would work for different reasons, whether being unable to modulate power for certain battery levels or being late at night.

IF there is a minimum SOC for fast charging that's news to me. I mean Kyle(Out of Spec Studios) has run the a Lightning down to zero(read: it stalled and needed a push) and was able to plug into a DCFC from zero.

It may be specific to EVGO hardware. 10% would be silly. There will be times when people need that extra little bit to get to the charger. I really don't think its a Ford battery limitation....

I hit an EVGO once at 7% (when the EA I had planned on was entirely closed with no warning on the EA app) and it worked fine. It was one of the 50KW stations.

Yeah, that 10% limit makes no sense from anything we have seen. My guess is the person you talked to had no idea and just made something up.

My last road trip had me down to 9%, charging went off without a hitch.

I'm guessing this was more to do with the state of your 12V battery. I am not sure how or why that would have drained, but it probably makes sense to keep a jump pack onboard.

I hit an EA in Amarillo TX with less than 1% in 30 degree temps and had no problem fast charging.

I have charged on <1% at an Electrify America, it was in the Fall so not too cold or hot. No problems.
