So, people of Illinois, there's a new $4k EV credit starting July 1st.. to qualify, you must purchase an EV on or after July 1, 2022. So..

Say my Lightning gets delivered to dealer in June 10th as an example. Anyone know long can I stall the dealer before i would forfeit the truck?

That is a question only your dealer can answer. They can hold it as long as they want.

I would say it is between you and your dealer. For GM on the Silverado EV, GM has said that the order will be forfeited 14 days after delivery to the dealer if the purchase is not completed.

If it is close, you could always ask for an add on that will take time and cost less than $4k (ceramic coat, ppf (partial), bed liner, etc.). Dealer will love the extra profit.

That's what I was kind of thinking too if its scheduled early.. add the factory bedliner (supposedly delaying 2-4 months on Mavericks), then in June removing it to speed it back up. Having the dealer add a bedliner after delivery might only buy you a couple days or a week if they do it quick in-shop.

I'm just worried about dealer antics. I was originally going to go back and have them add the Max Tow Package, but I already have purchase order signed and price pretty much locked.. with all the horror stories on here, the last thing I want is for the dealer to write up a new buyers order and say "By the way your old buyers order is now null and void since your order changed.. things have changed here as well and now we require $10k ADM." Who knows what games they might play. I potentially risk paying $10k to save $4K.

I'd suggest that a dealer in Illinois, knowing that the rebate starts on 7/1, would want to ensure that any customer that can qualify does qualify. It costs them two things to delay - some interest on the unsold car, and shifting June sales to July. I would fully expect my dealer to not blink at a few weeks. A month maybe he does the math and figures out the cost to him and if that's worth him floating it for me.

In the meantime the dealer will mark the truck as unsold and customer unresponsive/refused, sell it to the highest bidder.

Sorry, couldn't help it, in this market anything can happen. Dealer owner see's the truck sitting and sells it to a buddy to make some $'s. Money talks, BS walks these days.

Only your dealer can tell you what they are willing to do and not the Internet.

Presumably Ford knows about this too.... Illionis, in general, should reach out to them to not deliever any trucks until July.

However, unless my math is wrong... The rebate income limit should disqualify most (if not all) Lightning buyers:

those rebates are restricted to customers whose average income doesn’t exceed 80 percent of the area’s median income.

I'm not looking up the finer details, but median income for a family in Illinois is ~$65K.... 80% of that is ~$52k

Outside of the Pro, it wouldn't be a sound financial decision to buy an expensive Truck w/ that income

Here is the text of the bill:
(c) The Agency shall make available in application materials methods for purchasers to identify as low-income. The Agency shall prioritize the review of qualified applications from low-income purchasers and award rebates to qualified purchasers accordingly.
It sounds to me like low-income qualifiers will get priority if the claims for credit exceed the funding. Messy legalese.

I predict the ADM charged will equal the new state incentive.
