I got a quote from an electrician to add a sub panel with transfer switch to use the lightning as a backup power source.

I've done a ton of reading on the forums and know most people use the generac panel for this.

They have quoted a Reliance transfer switch. I asked a lot about the setup with the lightning and the requirements for the inlet.

I can't find any documentation from reliance or otherwise that this panel will support the lightning input.

Can anyone confirm if this should work?

The main thing with the Lightning is the transfer switch must switch the neutrals. Switching only the hots, as many (most?) transfer switches do, will not play nicely with the Lightning. It will detect the neutral ground bond at the main panel as a ground fault.

Reliance probably makes a ton of transfer switches so without knowing the exact model it's hard to say.

June 2024: I just wired up the LER Lightning to power:

1. House - thru Reliant Manual Transfer switch connected to the two 20 Amp 120V circuits in the bed. Powers lights, fridge, microwave, washing machine & some wall outlets.
2. Hangar - also thru second transfer switch connected to the 30 Amp 240V circuit. Powers the well pump, H20 pressure pump, septic system, hangar overhead door, beer fridges & lights. Usually don't need well pump as we have 1000 gal storage tank.

We have separate 200 Amp panels feeding off one meter & 22 MwH solar panels. Thru the solar panel inverter, I can run an extension cord to the truck & charge it (slowly) thru 120V charger while the sun's shining & grid's down.

Interested. Have a Reliance transfer switch already wired in (from another project).

I haven't been able to keep track of all the neutral/bonded/gounded chatter to know if this means it's good or not. Posting so more knowledgeable folk can chime in.

EDIT: There's another Q&A later that says a Switching Neutral Kit is needed, pretty certain this applies to our trucks:
