Update: I see now this has already been discussed. Sorry for the repeat.

Member sstevetx mentioned this in a post about programming a key. I tried it and it works. It’s a cool capability so I’m pointing it out for everybody that’s interested.

If you program a key fob to your truck that has traditional remote start instead of the frunk button, you can remote start the truck just like an ICE F150. So, if you can’t start the cabin warmup with the app, you can start it from the key fob. It functions just as if you had started it from the app.

With the cold weather we’ve been having I’ve found that at very cold temps the BMS will shutdown several features to preserve the 12v SOC. This happens even when the 12v is at a high SOC - happened to my truck after 9 hours at work with the 12v at over 90% charge with outdoor air temps below -5F. One of the features that gets shutdown is the connected features modem. So, when I most wanted to preheat the cabin my app couldn’t connect.

If you decide to try it, make sure to pick a fob with the right frequency. My 24 Flash key fob is 433 MHz. Earlier trucks were 315 MHz. Best approach is to check your Fob FCC ID to confirm your frequency.

I've had it happen multiple times this winter at work after only 5 or 6 hours between 30-40 degrees F. The saver is very conservative and really seems like an oversight as to have at least given us the possibility of starting using the default key fob from the factory.

I assumed there was no remote start on key fob due to something within the EV platform but it irritates me more that it's actually built in and they just didn't provide it :cwl:

So this wouldn’t work with the 315mhz fob?
I believe you just need to use a key fob with a frequency that matches your original key fob frequency. I think it’s 315 MHz for the 22 and 23, and 433 MHZ for the 24 - but you should verify before buying a new fob. My experience is only with my 24 Flash.

Check under the key on your current fob and there will be a part number and an FCC ID number. There are multiple part numbers included in each FCC ID. Any fob with the same FCC number will work so look for one with the remote start button.

I have the 315 MHz on my 23. So if I find one online to order that is 315 MHz that has the remote the remote start button on it what I’m hearing is it once it’s programmed to the truck I should then have remote start from that key fob without any additional steps..?

That's how it's working for my 24 Flash. Member sstevetx reported that is how it works on his '22. I'm assuming it will work on all years.

For those of you interested in remote start fob for your '24, I just successfully programmed this fob to my 24 Flash.

https://a.co/d/aruQ2JP

It's sold as a fob for '23 and '24 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550. It's working perfectly.

I got this fob from UHS Hardware and it arrived today. Shows that it's on sale now for $36.

Matched the FCC number printed on the top of my current key under the physical key snap-on part. I followed this video on Youtube after a couple of unsuccessful attempts at programming. The error I was making was trying to keep the key in the slot under the cup holder for 5 seconds (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, etc) but the video says to keep the fob there until the startup "doo, doo, doo" sound sequence is finished. That made the difference for me and successfully programmed on the first attempt with that method.

Lock, unlock, and start all work like a charm! I have a Pro so the tailgate button doesn't do anything for me, but I'm excited to have the start function on the fob.

Next step is to go to a locksmith to have the key blade copied for the new fob.

I have a 23. I checked my fcc id and I’m at 315mhz. Anyone found a compatible key with remote start at this frequency? I’ve been scouring the internet and only so far found 900mhz and 433mhz.

The fobs are widely available. Check the link in my post above for UHS Hardware. Amazon, Alibaba, and lots of other online vendors also sell them. Type your FCC number in the website search box to see if the fob is available on a certain vendor, or in a search engine to see all of the vendors.
