It's worth the wait for the Ford adapter. It's improved vs. the aftermarket designs, and easier to use than the Rivian adapter.

Ford adapter doesn't allow level 2 Tesla charging though, which is pretty annoying. does the rivian's?

Due to the nature of NACS where the same pins can carry AC or DC compared to J1772 and CCS, where separate pins carry AC and DC, any adapter that does both would have to connect the NACS power pins to both the AC and DC pins on the vehicle, which would be quite dangerous. Separate adapters are required for that reason in both directions - Tesla owners need to carry a J1772 adapter for AC and a CCS adapter for DC, we need to carry a NACS AC adapter for AC and a NACS DC adapter for DC.

Ford has higher standards and makes sure the adapter is designed and built to be functional and safe (granted, they did recall some). That doesn't mean aftermarket ones aren't just as good, it's just more likely the Ford one will function as intended without issues.
Ford has tapped Lectron to build some Ford branded adapters. But the Ford branded ones aren't the same as the Lectron branded ones.
It's like aftermarket toner cartridges for your printer. Some as just as good as OEM, some are crap. Get OEM if you want to be certain they will work.

Do you know what’s the difference between the Lectron one and the Ford made by Lectron other than the logo?
I wonder what Tesla did wrong with their adapter.

Pick one
- Simply too slow on the supply chain
- Forced into one vendor until certifications came out
- Priced higher since it is Tesla
- Difficult to work with Tesla as a competing vendor

There is not a single Tesla SuperCharger adapter on the market that also allows Level 2 Tesla Destination charging. Not one.

Fun facts:
Tesla made Ford's adapters initially. Ford had to recall (cough, cough) their June shipments and replace them. Ford's lawyers got it to be a Customer Satisfaction Program instead of an NHTSA recall (cough, cough).
Lectron had to recall 1,600 of their Vortex adapters and change their design too.
A2Z had to recall their original Typhoon adapter, but the Typhoon Pro is great.
Because Tesla couldn't come close to producing enough adapters, Ford had Lectron make some too. Those adapters started shipping in the past few weeks, and are shipping in volume as compared to Tesla.
