This is why I paid the extra $ to have the electrician run the copper to the front of my garage. :) I pull straight in, no problem. If you have too make room, reorganize, build cabinets etc. OR, move the charger a shorter distance to another side and don't run over the cable.

Hey everyone! I’ve been facing a bit of a challenge with my EV charging routine, and I’m hoping to get some advice. Typically, I back my truck into the garage for charging, but due to a busy schedule, I sometimes forget and need to charge later.

Given the recent cold weather, I prefer not to manually back in. The good news is that my charging cable can reach the port if I slide it under the truck and pull it through. To avoid scratching the charging head, I currently use a plastic lid and a stick to guide it through.

Is there a specialized tool or gadget designed to make this process smoother? Any recommendations or DIY solutions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
I use these although I don't drive over them, they run parallel to the truck. My FCSP is mounted between two garage doors and I pull straight in. It's easier to just leave the cable on the floor under these cable protectors than it is to coil and uncoil every charge cycle.

My mobile kit is a Tesla mobile connector, 80A Tesla Tap, and this extension cable. Same kit I had in my MME, except I had a 40A Tesla Tap in the MachE. I've only used the extension a couple times, but each time it made the difference between having to hit a Fast Charger or not as it allowed me an overnight charge when I otherwise would not have been able to get one.

There is an 80A extension cable available but it's about 2x the cost: https://qccharge.com/products/jlong™-80-amp
It's eternally sold out, like most of QC Charge's products especially the ones rated for more than 48A. I suspect they have had supply chain problems with the high amperage J1772 connectors required - I have tried to source them myself and it is very difficult if you are not willing to buy in lots of 10,000 or more.

Someone here advised to just make it a habit to back in every time. That’s what I’ve been doing. Except my wife, she is not confident to back in so there are times where I still have to pull the truck out and back it in to charge but it has been a lot less.

You could just back in every time. You will get more comfortable with it over time. Eventually you'll wonder why you were screwing around with the charging cable on the garage floor.

☝ That's me taking a victory lap. Pretend the emoji truck is moving to the right side of the screen hence doing the Polish victory lap like the great Alan Kulwiki. Seems apropos.

I bought an J1772 extension cable for this reason - not just at home but at the 3-4 other home L2 chargers I often find myself at (both my parents and my in-laws have them). Rather than re-arranging cars in the driveway, I just extend their L2 charger's distance and life is easier. I use it at home too because my EVSE is on my wife's normal side of the garage and it's annoying to switch the cars around to "fill up".

with my wife's Brand New EV9, our overhead cable hangs perfectly between our two vehicles, so whichever needs to 'plug in' for the night, works perfectly... I have other 240v outlet options, if needed, but for us, it works without needing to charge both at the same time.

of course, we have a little easier than most owners: our's is a 'drive thru' carport... we both pull 'in', and with my LIGHTNING port on the driver side, parking in the right half of the carport, and her EV9's port on the rear PASSENGER side, parking in the left half, the cable is hanging right there for either to use.
