Yup, same sound of the motor struggling. Occasionally it fails even though it makes it to the latch when the truck is pointing up hill. It always makes it on the second attempt.Anyone else have a Tailgate that sounds like it's struggling to lift itself up? Works every time, but I still keep an eye on it!
Had my tailgate fail about two weeks ago. It wouldn't open. Thought it might be a common problem and an easy fix. But it turn out it wasn't and took six days for my dealer to troubleshoot and fix the problem. They found that the top tailgate open / release actuators binding internally and ended up replacing both tailgate latch assemblies and the door lock striker.Wonder if anyone has had to replace the lift motor yet?
Nothing is broken. It was designed to act like an old man getting up from his favorite chair. Can't you use one of those gas strut kits to give it a little more lift? Might have to change the strut itself out on one of those kits that prevents the tailgate from banging down, but that's pretty simple.
This is not normal.Interesting, I wonder if this is similar to what's going on with my tailgate. Ever since I got the truck it takes at least 3 button presses to open. The first two presses result in a lot of clicking and beeping sounds. Kind of like the truck forgot what position the latches are in. After getting it open it behaves better for a little while. Had the dealer look at it the other day but all they did was adjust the tonneau cover and declare it fixed. It's not and it still behaves this way even with the tonneau folded back.
