I personally hate the look, but it's not the worst EV frontend I've seen. Depending on its features and price, I could probably convince myself to buy it. Like someone else mentioned, I don't have brand loyalty, so I'd at least give it a consideration if I don't have a Lightning by then.

That transition from cab to bed is hard to make out, but it appears this may be a unibody design (vs. Body on frame), or at least it doesn't have a separate bed and cab.

so basically a larger big fender santa cruz?
Yeah, I actually really like the Santa Cruise (except maybe the front end). Too small for my needs though. Inner 80's geek coming out.

That's unibody. It might be an EV, of course, but that is NOT Gm's volley to the Lightning.

They have more savvy than that.

True, there's absolutely no way they would make the half ton Silverado a unibody vehicle.
Chevy tried to skewer Ford for going aluminum. Think of the advertising if Chevy went unibody.

Exactly.
And to be honest, this time around with Ford getting out front, unlike the aluminum, I don't envy the competitions position. The Lightning is so well received by almost the whole world that all GM (and Ram, Nissan, Toyota) can do is make dang sure they can at least match it.

And although around here there's a lot of heat regarding ordering and waiting and....whatever, the competition has the same hurdles to jump.

The fact that even after months of public showing of the Lightning, nobody else is even in the peekaboo stage.

I don't care which brand you might decide on, the Lightning has a head start at getting to your driveway.

By the time most of the legacy competitors come out with their first BEV pickup, Ford will be getting ready to launch gen 2. They're absolutely winning this race and if the truck is actually a solid product, they'll cement their place in EV history.

More important than that..Ford is making a serious play on locking up the commercial/fleet market. They made the Lightning conservative(and looks like a conventional f150) on purpose. The design is making it as easy as possible for business owners to jump to EVs. Its part of their pitch.

Although GM says they are making a fleet/commercial version, however I have a hard time believing they will win over commercial/fleet owners with that design choice. I don't know whether they are misreading the audience or if it was strategic decision. My opinion, commercial customers are a tough crowd, tough to win over, and tend to go with what they know(comfortable). I don't see any of the other competition-- silverado, CT, Rivian making a serious play for these customers. I don't see many takers from that demographic for a lifestyle of radical design choice.

Looks like Ford is the only serious game in town. It could be a huge win for them if they can win over trademan, contractors and feet customers with low running costs, power outlets, capability, etc.

You know, all this time I had been downplaying the commercial play in my mind, but that makes a ton of sense. Moreso considering a majority of their aftermarket accessories will work with no fuss on this new truck. There's a lot to be said for that since many businesses sink tens of thousands of dollars into making their trucks work for them.

That plus the familiarity of an existing vehicle is a massive advantage. Unless Chevy is planning a more traditional body for the commercial/fleet version, they'll have a hard time winning people over.
