The pictures I saw didn't look "Fully Burned". It sounded like they were just going really fast and hit a truck-proof tree and wall. Hard to say what was on fire. Maybe the LV battery burned? Seems like if it was the main battery the damage would have been far more extensive and visible.

The vehicle is packed with electrical wiring, both high and low voltage. Which will burn when the right short circuit is created in the crash. Which will eventually ignite the rest of the interior like any vehicle fire.

One would expect a traction battery fire to get that stainless hot enough to oxidize it, not to mention burn off the tires, so the battery must have held up impressively. It says something about battery robustness (and almost certainly quick and competent first responders) that with so much of the cabin apparently burned out, the battery held.

Really sorry that the occupants didn't make it. Sympathy to their families and friends.
