Can the short cables on the Tesla superchargers even reach the Lightning’s charge port?

I would guess they won't, but it is an AWD truck - climb on the curb and pull on up :)

That's a reality now. WaWa is ahead of the game in this regard. I'll go a little bit out of the way to plug in at a WaWa. Why? Because I don't have to drag my kids through an entire store/parking lot to access the (usually) clean bathrooms.

The timing works out wonderfully. Roughly 10-15 minutes to use the facilities. For the longer stops, we'll grab some hoagies or a bacon ranch quesadilla. For $10-15 we feed the family, burn up 30-40 minutes of charging and head on our way.

Not from what people have said, no.
I mean...it can if you choose to parallel instead of perpendicular park.

Some of the supercharger stations will have 1 stall - or more - that's reversed. Those are the only ones that will readily reach.

I know the pull thru spots at the Baker, CA super chargers can work.

Speaking for what is on the road right now - and yeah - well $50M (that is a drop in the bucket to a company the size of Ford and for the price the Lightning is bringing) is still dirt cheap for Farley to man up and make those incredible vehicles he is selling truly usable for leaving your home area without fear of not being able to charge.
I wonder how much Rivian is spending on their Adventure Network of CCS chargers? Probably $50 million gets you in the neighborhood.

Your idea gets Ford a network already on the ground, infrastructure in place, and functioning. The Blue Oval Network would become real-real quick. Now, it's mostly an impressive, misleading map of ~74,000 Level 2 chargers. This is going to create a lot of Blue Oval animosity when new EV owners get educated the hard way. Example:

From what I know about WaWa and the setup's, they know how to do it and are embracing it.

Buc-cee's is the latest. If you aren't familiar with them, go Google. They are adding a large number of Superchargers to most every store they have.

You would think that EA would be on board and beating down their door too (and they could be, but nothing is announced.)

New York is doing great too - new Fast Chargers at all thruway rest stops (every ~30miles) which have a decent selection of facilities (a few restaurants, bathrooms, a convenience store, etc.)

No kidding. Wife went on a recent trip to Florida, stopped at the SC and came back with a couple hundred bucks worth of Buc-ee's stuff... shirts, candy, snacks, toys, you name it. All impulse buys.

Speaking of the reliability of Musk executing on a signed agreement per the terms of the agreement, ...

Ripped from today's headlines:

Twitter Is Ready for a Potential Legal Battle With Elon Musk
Mr. Musk has appeared reluctant to proceed with the $44 billion agreement, citing uncertainty about the number of fake accounts on the platform.

We've been at or past several brand new Buc-ees and were surprised at the lack of chargers on these just opened, or about to open, locations.

We got gas, and a coffee (was awful). People need to exert self-control.

Several Buc-ee's locations are adding CCS1 DCFC to their locations using VW Dieselgate money, and EA has several stations hosted by Love's. I would be surprised if truck stop chains don't leverage the upcoming flood of infrastructure money to further build out their charger amenities--they're perfect for charging stops since they have a complete 24/7 set of amenities for humans and dogs, and seem safer at night than random Walmart parking lots.

I have no interest in giving Musk a single red cent if at all possible. If we don't absolutely need to use a SC, we won't, especially if they're pricing over EA. We've had the ID.4 for almost a year and never had an issue going anywhere we've needed to go and the networks will only get better.

Don't get the hate for the Tesla drivers in this thread. If that's the brand they want and they want to support a clown who will either treat his employees poorly or impregnate them, great. I will do my part not to take up their parking spot :)

This is really exciting. After using the Tesla supercharger network for a few years there’s no way I’d use anything else with my lightning if it becomes available
