Wife got home from a weekend trip. Parked in the driveway. Went to move the truck and nothing. Would not shift out of park. We had a spare battery, don't ask why, so we swapped it out, thinking it might be a 12 volt problem. Nope. Checked to see if it would take a charge, nope, red light.

We tried all the ways to get the truck to go into neutral. None of them worked. Will not charge. Basically dead in the water.
Tow truck driver had to drag the truck onto the flatbed. Dealer was not helpful either. If the software fails, then everybody is hosed.

We did just get an over the air update. Wonder if they missed a test case for getting into neutral in case of emergency?

Hope it doesn't cost too much to repair.

Won't go into neutral and won't charge are 2 very different things. And then saying you just got an OTA update and you disconnected your 12v. Was the OTA still going and you did this? Did it say on the screen the OTA failed?

Foot on accelerator and brake at same time should allow you to place it into neutral. Then press the neutral hold button, otherwise it will go back into park.

Tried all three techniques, many times.
Dealer checked it out, all is well.
My wife and I have a theory though as to what happened.
Will detail later.

It was not getting an update at the time.
It had recently (days ago) gotten an update. I don't think that is it.

Took it to the dealer, no error codes, went into gear, they charged it up. Everything working as expected. Swell.

Wife took it for a day trip.
  • Charging faults and error messages when she went to charge at EA.
  • Switched chargers a couple of times so she could get home.

Charge faults at home the next day.
  • Getting the thing charged up enough to take to dealer if needed.
  • This is really feeling like the update last week has messed things up.

Home charger confirmed working fine, as we have a second EV charging just fine.

Theory as to why it would not come out of park.

This happened to her twice. Once in a steep driveway, once at home on a flat surface.
She took the emergency brake off in the steep driveway, then she was able to put the truck in gear.

When it failed to go into gear in our driveway, which is flat, nothing we tried worked.
However, since we dragged the truck onto the flatbed to go to the dealer, I suspect the wheels moved at bit, thus allowing the truck to go into gear at the dealer.

We should have tried to put it in gear after pulling the truck a little in the driveway, I bet it would have worked.

Theory: There is a sensor that if in just the right spot, stops the truck from going into gear and also causes several other unrelated warning lights. Like the traction control and onboard power.

Or, I'm wrong.
