I had issues at two V4 stations during a Thanksgiving road trip. Both showed as available to non-tesla, but both gave the same symptoms when using the magic dock; nerfing to ~25 kw after less than 10 minutes.

In one instance I was able to switch stalls and the issue went away, on the second occasion I used my own adapter instead of major dock and the issue went away.

Very unscientific, yes, but I didn't have time to run a controlled experiment at 2am.

I wonder if some of the flawed adapters made it into the V4 production line and Tesla has an idea which stations are at risk and have neutered the availability or speed until they can be replaced with improved adapters ??

I was on a road trip this weekend and tried using two different v4 Superchargers and both gave me a charger activation fault. I'm using and A2Z Pro adapter and all v3 stations worked great. It almost got me in a serious jam though.
Only sharing my experience-- not saying this is what happened with you. When I first used my A2Z Pro adapter at a Tesla supercharger, I plugged the adapter into my Lightning, then started the session with FordPass, and then plugged in the Tesla charger-- and I got the red lights on the Lightning charge port indicating a fault.

So I unplugged everything and tried again-- only this time, I pushed the Tesla charger harder into the A2Z adapter and then heard a click of it locking into place. After that, the session started and I charged fine. I guess with these A2Z adapters, you have to really push the Tesla charger in strongly until you get the click of locking into place-- otherwise you get a fault.

Good luck!

Not saying this is the issue, but when the Bucees in Springfield MO opened with V4 stands, it was something like 8 weeks before it opened to non-Teslas. Seems they wait a while before activation for other EVs.

OP, another thing comes to mind. Wonder if it's the CC tied to the account? Expired? Or maybe the bank has locked it down as fraud prevention? Maybe they think your too far out side your $home" area. CC banks have pissed me off with this kind of crap before. They once would not let me make an online purchase from California because they had the entire state on block. Had some not so nice words for them.

All interesting thoughts, but this was on a 600 mile road trip and all of the V3 Superchargers worked great but these two particular V4 did not.

I got complacent relying on the Tesla network for reliability and almost had a mess in N. Georgia where the charging choices are slim. I had to backtrack to a 62 kW Chargepoint station to get back on track but was super close to being stuck.

Interesting point. Didn't think of that but a specifically recall noting "hmm, this magic dock adapter looks exactly like mine!"

I've used quite a lot of Supercharger "NACS" locations up and down I75 in GA FL and the Turnpike in FL, and Orlando locations, and even an "OTHER EV" location in AL and one in ATL ... all very easy and successful, except for one single small location... and, honestly, that may have been MY fault, not the charger, or the truck, for sure...

I don't think that most ANY of these 'issues' are anything more than:
A) owners who are not aware that 'all' Supercharger locations aren't set up for 'others'...
or
B) technology: software bugs, a simple 'glitch' at that moment, but usually NOT the Supercharger's 'fault', not the Truck's 'fault', and not the Operator's 'fault'.

as to that single location I had an issue getting to Activate, I simply moved to another unit on the other end and everything worked just as it should...

You obviously are welcome to disregard what I am saying but I'm just trying to spread a friendly warning. I am highly seasoned in this area and it is clear to me there is an issue with some new v4 installations, listed as accessible, and our trucks.

I have never seen a PlugShare entry that incorrectly said a location WAS open when it wasn't though.

Read the comments and see who charged there.
I had this issue with Plugshare. A V4 install in Easton MD showed as being available to non-tesla vehicles, but it wouldn't show up in the tesla app when I tried to activate the chargers. The Magic dock would pop out, but the truck wouldn't charge at all. It's possible that they have since activated it, as someone since did have a successful charge, but a couple of months ago when I tried it wouldn't work.

I 100% use the Tesla app and it clearly had it marked as available with adapter, 2 different v4 installations, sam trip.

I tried to use a v4 charger last week. I had some trouble getting the Magic Dock to release the adapter, so I tried using my own (Ford) adapter. This would not work. I could only get the charger to work if I used the adapter provided with the Magic Dock. Your issue may be due to something else, but it seemed to me that v4 chargers will only work with the provided adapter

I think you might be correct. I hope to get some formal information.

Last month I was able to use a new V4 Tesla Supercharger with the Ford adapter. I did not try to use the magic dock. In fact the app doesn't mention that magic dock is available.

Likely each location is set by Tesla on what charging method can be used. The app should state what is needed to charge up.

I am just trying to help, not to be sarcastic, I have said over and over the app said these two site were available to non tesla with adapter, yet they were both non functional. Something is up and it really stinks to get stranded. I am up on all of the nuance of DCFC and there a clear issue with SOME ne v4 installations.

I also found that I had to follow the instructions very precisely to connect the adapter from the Magic Dock. When I activated the charger the adapter wasn't locked in. I had to push a button on a charger handle, jam it into the Magic Dock adapter holder pretty firmly, and then the adapter would release. It was kind of a fussy process. The charger/Tesla app knew whether the Magic Dock adapter was connected or not (hence not letting me use my own personal adapter- the charge session would not start with the provided Magic Dock adapter not connected)
