This is from a flyer that my local Ford dealer sent out a few days ago. Not only has this been sitting on their lot for 2 years (I know because I've seen it there) the dealership won't even service electric vehicles now.

The three 2023 Mach-E GT PEs that have been on my dealer's lot (sent as stock, not ordered) for the last year-plus are now even less of a bargain than they were six months ago.

There used to be a 14k incentive to help move them off the lot. They still didn't sell, literally no interest in my local area for these cars.

But now the 14k incentive has dropped to 6k....but you can get the 24 model they also have, that's cheaper than the 23's they've still got on the lot because it does have the incentives.

Oh, and nobody wants the '24 model either.

Honestly don't know why Ford doesn't send a transporter and move these to a market where they might actually sell. Salesman told me that they expect to take a loss of around 10k or more on each of them if anybody expresses an interest.

And then they'll tell Ford: "See?! We can't sell the damn things!"
That's why Ford needs to sell direct. Dealers are the death of new tech.

Dealers don't want to learn anything and are content to just keep selling antiquated merchandise at exorbitant prices.

This looks like the Dumb & Dumber logic of "so you're tellin' me there's a chance" that someone will see that advertisement and walk in the take it.

Theyā€™ve got a lot of pressure to move them. When I bought mine I felt that some dealerships were embracing the fact that they had no chance to move them and heavily discounted them. Others did not. For any vehicle, but certainly an EV there is an extremely limited market as the credit restrictions arenā€™t moving as quickly as most would like.

Western NC isnā€™t known to be the target market with income averages like these.

Iā€™m from the same area and tell everyone Iā€™m an Appalachian American Refugee, that now lives in the occupied zone in NOVA.

There is no "extremely limited market" for electric vehicles. They are growing by double digits every year for the past 15 years.

I agree that the sales of EVs are always increasing BUT..... there are regional differences. As xenoilphobe said, if you live in a relative poor area like western north carolina and can't find anyone who will work on electric vehicles, it doesn't do much to help your sales.

I don't believe that the lack of demand in WNC is just due to income, if that were the case then there wouldn't be so many premium trim ICE F-150s on the road. In the NC mountains, and many other rural areas of the country, change happens more slowly. There is resistance to adopt anything new or different. The resistance to adopt EVs is perpetuated by dealers like the one mentioned. I know the dealership in question and am not surprised. I personally had issues with them working on my hybrid vehicle over a decade ago.

I currently use a dealership in a neighboring county and mine is one of two or three F-150 Lightings serviced by them. They have been very open with me about the fact that they are still learning about EVs. But, they have gone above and beyond to figure how to resolve any issues I have had.
