Curious if this ever happened to anyone. If yes, do you have any insights. I was out at home depot. Came back, hit the unlock on the keyfob, 10, 5, 2 feet away from front and driver side of the truck. No lights came on and truck remained locked. I used the manual key to get in and once I was in, it recognized the key and I was able to turn it on. When I got home, I tried to reproduce the problem but no dice. Since I just don't take the second key with me and my wife has only the mechanical key, I am a little concerned about this happening in the cold again but what if next time truck does not turn on. Keyfob is exactly two years old but I doubt the battery is low. I tested it, 70 feet away afterward and it unlocked the truck. If any of you have any ideas why this may have happened, please share your thoughts.

Perhaps the truck went into deep sleep? If so, giving a door handle a pull should wake it up and allow the fob to function.

I was in the store at most for 30 minutes but I will keep this in mind for the next time. Thanks.

This has definitely happened to me: twice in the last month. Unlocking via fob, vehicle was unresponsive. Finally unlocked as I got closer but took about 15 seconds (which felt like an eternity based on current expectations of technology).

I had some weird behavior with my key fob not long after buying my truck last April. I changed the battery in both fobs and haven't had any issues since. This might not be the cause of your issue, but it's a relatively cheap thing to try and you will likely be needing to replace the batteries before long anyway. They take a CR2450 battery. Worth trying IMO.

Just to add to this suggestion: for those of us without passive entry this strategy may not work. I have noticed that hitting the frunk release button without the fob present results in feedback in the form of clicks and such. That may be enough to wake it up as well.

Another option is the securicode pad, if available.

If you unlock the truck with the key, and the fob isn't recognized to start it, simply insert it in the location designed for it and it will start.

See manual.

I am having a hard time locating the designated location for starting my Pro with key blade. Can't find it in the manual either. Can you be a little more specific where it is?

FOB, not key.

ACCESSING THE PASSIVE KEY BACKUP POSITION
If you are unable to start your vehicle,
locate the backup slot in the following
position.

Note: Make sure to place the key properly
into the backup slot.

With the key in the backup slot, press the
brake pedal, then press the push button
ignition switch to start your vehicle.

Ah, you are talking about the place used to program the key. Interesting that it would work with a dead FOB battery.

For a moment, you gave me hope that if I lose my key FOB, I could use my wife's backup blade to start it. As of now, I don't even know how to turn off the alarm when I open the door with her blade.

If you open door with key, you then start truck...

I have a separate Key that I got for the spare tire lock. It is not a part of a FOB. So if I lose the FOB when I am out somewhere away from the truck, I can still use the wife's bade to open the door but as we discussed earlier, I can't use it to start the truck (it won't work in the designated space for FOB). When I use her key to open the door without FOB present, the alarm goes off. I still have to figure out how to turn off the alarm in such an occasion.

The spare key unlocks door, and spare tire lock.

Wife's fob and yours are identical. Both start truck.

Unless you specifically ordered it or had it made as such, the spare tire lock is a different key than your door lock. Try it before you need it to verify...

To summarize:

Key blade from either fob opens the door.

Either fob inserted into the fob slot, with or without a functional battery, and I believe with or without the lock blade inserted into the fob, will allow you to start truck and silence the alarm.

Spare tire lock comes with it's own unique key blade unless you had the spare tire lock re-keyed to match your fob key blade.

The spare tire key by itself will not let you enter or start the truck, unless you had it made to match your door locks. In that case you can get in your car, but the alarm will sound and you won't be able to start it or silence the alarm unless you have a fob to insert into the slot.

My truck also came with a key that only works in the center console and glove box. It only works in those two locks, nothing else.

When I got the truck it didn’t have the lock. I told my dealer, you need to get this fixed. He ordered it and I installed it. It is exact duplicate of the key in my key fob. I have no idea why other people would have a different key for their spare if the lock came with their truck but I take your word for it. As I mentioned before mine works on the door but in every occasion that I tested it, I used the FOB to shut off the alarm in less than 30 seconds. I don’t know if the alarm has a time out or if it keeps going until the battery is dead. On one hand I would like to figure out how to open the door without going crazy from alarm sound without the FOB. On the other hand, I don’t want someone else to be able to do that.
