The Sentry video is clear. This happened in San Jose 2 weeks ago. Tesla caught the attack and my friend is the one who confronted the guy the very next day. San Jose police arrested the assailant and is able to prosecute because it has his license plate and face.
This. It is very clear. The videos sent to the mobile device are highly compressed, but from the USB/dash screen they are clear and easy to make out details.

As for Battery drain, as shown in the statement from Rivian, Tesla and Rivian drivers know the implications to battery. You can choose to enable or disable at anytime.

And a quick Google search implies that Rivian is suffering from the "same" issues the Lightning would gave had (12v drain, premature "wear" on the LVB, and vampire drain on the HVB) if that feature would be implemented with our current HW / infrastructure.
Yep. VD is probably the biggest topic on the Rivian forums. Gen 2 vehicles don't suffer near as much. Speculation is they used a low power processor dedicated to the Gear Guard features. For both G1 and G2 the Gear Guard can be easily toggled on/off or geocached to be auto off at home. Several guys have posted accident video where the other person was clearly at fault but lied to the cops. That video is saved automatically if an "even occurs" or can be triggered by horn or tapping the screen at any time. It's a really nice feature. No need for a dash cam.

As a computer programmer the software change wouldn't be that difficult. Hardware required: camera's and a video recorder. The video recorder doesn't exist in the vehicle, but that could be added to nw vehicles. It'll probably happen in the future. Resolution on our cameras is great. Just a thought anyway. I was pretty sure someone must have made a three on this before. I just couldn't find it.
I agree with you on the software portion - but I think the current side camera orientation in the mirrors that is aiming down would not provide the same wide angle and clarity the side mounted Tesla cams in the “B” pillars currently do. I think they would need to implement that hardware change as well.

And if they went through all of that trouble, they may as well pull that view into the instrument panel when we put the turn signals on just like Tesla and other vendors do…

Yes definitely too much to ask for. You never know maybe in the lightnings future.

Plenty of power for it. The Lightning 12v is huge compared the 12v in our Rivian R1S. The Rivian has "Gear Guard" with live view which is very similar to Tesla.

That being said, I doubt Ford will add this feature. I'm guessing '25 will be the last year for the Lightning.
Really last year. I never heard that.

I think sentry mode on tesla is great. You'd think they could better monitor the 12 volt battery and charge it from the HV battery when needed. I believe that's where the charge for 12 volt gets it's charge.

Sentry mode caught this dude keying a Tesla at DFW airport. Identified and arrested for criminal mischief. Plus the owner is filing a civil suit for damages.

Need more of this. Everyone should also be filing civil lawsuits on top of the criminal lawsuits. I'm also in agreement that this is closer to trying to intimidate people of their purchases, which could really up the criminal charges.
So weird you didn't see a bunch of prius's (unsure the plural for pruis) getting attacked when people were making fun of them in the early 2000's. Hell, even when charge stations were being 'attacked' 5+ years ago, it was just people parking in the spots, not flippin firebombing them.......

They know whether it would or would not. That's why they don't currently offer it I would presume. Telsa drivers seem enamored with it, and dog mode. Then they complain the videos aren't clear enough to identify anyone, and it kills the battery...
Umm 3 or 4 national stories just in the last week. Tesla's getting keyed, perp found and arrested. For about 3 years now the cameras are 4K on the Tesla. I can open the app and view any sentry video captured from the car within 5 to 10 seconds. No complaints here.

Tesla continues to enhance and deliver the upgrades to every car made since about 2017. Ford can't get simple updates pushed without bricking trucks.

Let's not forget the power infrastructure.

All that stuff would run off of the LVB and on the low end running all those cameras plus the recorder, LTE modem so you can get notifications, etc. would probably draw around 2-3A Which means the LVB wouldn't last a day.

So, bigger LVB and/or add a 2nd DC/DC for items permanently powered, add radar sensor to trigger cameras to wake up instead of always on, sure, it's all possible... but it's a lot more complicated than an afternoon of coding and showing a USB stick into the center console outlet.
Why? Tesla didn't need either of those things. They do it all day long on most every car. The 12 v batteries are even Liion and have been for 5 or so years. It really just takes more engineering than Ford has and a real CEO to put that kind of work into a vehicle.

Remember Ford just wanted to rush a product to market, they didn't say they wanted to make one that would wow us. Tesla has had the hardware included with every car they sell since 2017. 5 years before Ford sold the Lightning. Can't they even steal decent ideas once in a while?
