I noticed that after the unsuccessful attempt, two DTCs were thrown: one in BdyCM and one in GFM3 (whatever that is). The one in BdyCM is related to the bed lamp output and is detecting what I'm assuming is an open circuit. See below...

My truck set the same dtc in the body control module but I don’t believe the other module set a code but I’d have to double check. The fact that the code description says circuit short to open makes me thinks it’s missing a necessary wire somewhere to complete the circuit.

I wonder if it's as simple as a missing fuse. There's a bunch of fuses related to trailer lighting. I'll take a look at the fuse boxes and see what's there.
That said, I wouldn't think that a missing fuse would trigger an open circuit DTC since I would imagine these to be related to data signals.

Found this wiring diagram but unless I'm reading it wrong it just looked like the BCM controls the power to the bed lamp circuit.

Thanks. Looks like we can do some continuity checks following that diagram. Do you know what pins 1-5 on the left are?

About to finally get my 24 pro with tow tech that I’ve been waiting so long for. Wondering if with tow tech package are the bed lights just plug and play, or is forescan stuff required? Also hoping this working on my24…..

Did anyone with a '22 Pro without tow tech or zone lighting ever get this to work? Thanks for any guidance.

My XLT didn’t come with bed lights which is ridiculous so I decided to research and install them myself. I know I could tap in with a cheap led light strip but I like oem even if it costs more.

I bought the below parts through tasca which was the cheapest I could find.

I pried the bed light covers off and fed the wiring in and down the side of the bed. You can use a screwdriver or trim removal tool. You can reach your hand in to feed the lamp switch and led in the correct spots.

Once underneath you’ll see a dummy plug end on each side of the bumper. These will also need to be removed.

Connect both sets of plugs into their respective mating plugs. There is one location to push the wiring Christmas tree in on the driver side and two on the passenger side.

Once assembled you’ll need to open up Forscan and go into the BdyCM module, not the as built, and enable the below options.

Once enabled you now have working bed lights. :) Enjoy!

Will this work on a lariat with just the Forscan changes?

So just to confirm, will these lights work on a Pro with Tech Package? And is it plug and play? I'm still shocked that ANY truck doesn't come with bed lights from the factory.

I think that you’ll need either one or both of the tow-related options (tow tech and/or max-tow). I don’t recall if we ever figured out which option specifically adds the ability to enable the lights.

I believe that even if you have the wiring it will not work if you’re missing the required tow option.

My 2024 pro with tow tech package did not have the pre wired harness near the tailgate to remove the dummy caps and plug the lights and harness into. Was never able to confirm with anyone else but in my case 2024’s removed this from factory wiring even with tow tech package.

I was able to install and wire into the trailer plug for power. Only problem with this is like in even gas f150s the trailer harness doesn’t have power unless the truck is running, to you have to turn on for the bed lights to work only slightly annoying…..

I have a 2023 Pro with Tow and Tech. I'll check tomorrow. Is it right behind the light cap in the bed?

No, you’ll need two wire harnesses which feed into those capped sockets and connect to plugs located inside the side body panels between the bumper and wheels. Check out this video for exact instructions. You won’t see any connectors behind the caps.

Again, I could be wrong, but I believe that just because the plugs are there doesn’t mean it will ultimately work. I have a 2023 Pro with both tow tech and max tow. It worked for me but I believe others with different configurations have had less luck.

Gotta be tow tech. Been following this one a while and the max tow only guys and base pros are the ones who can't get the lights going. Zone lighting seems to be a red herring with no bearing on anything.

Not 100% but I thought the tow tech pkg just adds the factory trailer brake controller. I wonder if anyone with a pro has added the controller on their own. I know the ICE f150 guys do this and claim it's easy enough. Could be a missing link perhaps.
