Go solar now. You're 100% correct that they'll figure out a way to get the taxes out of you, and they'll most likely do it via utilities. Reduce your reliance on industries they control.
I have a Lariat Lightning build in May. My Model Y cost about $18 to go 320 miles, but I will sell it once the Lightning ships. Since my electric bill averages about $65 a month without charging my EV, I’m already planning on DIY Solar for off grid, to go straight to my driveway shed, where I will park the Lightning. Since I work at home, I will have the solar fill up the Lightning during the day. I’m also installing a transfer switch at my main panel, and run a 30a line to the front of my house, to an outlet. Where I can plug a 30a from my Lightning to the front of the house, where it will go to the transfer switch, in case of California brown outs, or worse. Can’t beat it for my situation. This whole gas thing has started to shy me away from driving my Bronco anywhere, but around town.

One of the things that really made me think about the sea change I mentioned at the top of this post was this video on Youtube. Now, leave your personal politics aside. You can dislike, like or be indifferent to the presenter. Just listen to her message about this truck, because the message is on point.

The rising cost of gas will be a big factor in this equation:

There is no "putting politics aside" when you post something from MSNBC. Just like all Democrats which is what MSNBC represents they want $7,8,10/gal gas. There are some in here who are also cheering $7 gas which is pathetic but it's who they are. It's their plan, it's why gas prices were going up before Ukraine they don't care about working class Americans or America in general to be honest. All they care about is power and pushing racism, woke agendas and climate crisis.

So no you can't put politics aside when you post garbage like that.

So you disagree with the conclusion that if the Ford Lightning is better than the ICE Ford F-150, this won't have an impact on the future of EV's in the US? Gas prices are a factor in that.

The Ford Lightning is only better at one thing over an ICE Ford and that's only if going green is high on your list of priorities. Again Democrats which all msnbc is will push gas price as high as they can to push their agenda.

In three years if the tides turn again which if things continue as they are we will have $2 gas again.

Interesting take.

I like the Lightning because it is cheaper to operate per mile, requires much less maintenance, has much greater acceleration, and can power my house during (frequent) power outages.

As far as "Going Green" goes, I don't think the Lightning is very good a that being an equivalent of 85 MPGe, which is one of the worst for EVs.

The list shows all topis and I saw one about gas prices.

I wish I could hide the Lightning topics but dont know how....
There's a filter in What's New where you can filter out Lightning or show only Lightning.

How long would your truck run your house on a full charge? I assume you cut back usage to just essentials when doing this. Im not a Lightning owner, but I have been curious about this

ICE can go farther while driving normal, or towing or going offroad.

Comparable ICE vehicles have a lower MSRP.

F150 Powerboost can power a house.

When the battery fails that's a hefty price tag.

Both have their positives and negatives. It really comes down to what you want.

Yep. ICE can go further - but we rarely drive the Jeep Grand Cherokee far enough to empty the tank. The Lightning works perfectly for our house.

You are absolutely right about the price difference.

Powerboost can power a house, but not automatically. I already have a generator, and I am just weary of constantly dragging it out and hooking it up. Looked up a propane generator, and it would cost $11,000 for one installed and it would guzzle propane, so I am factoring that into the price of the Lightning.

As for battery failure, I am going through one now with my Kia - and it is covered under warranty. The price of the batteries has fallen a lot though. A friend bought a used Nissan Leaf (2013) that used to have a very expensive battery, but he had it replaced (including work) for $6000. So, with an 8 year warranty, I am not worried in my case.

Great question - and it depends. Based on my power usage stats for "normal" use I could do about 3 days or so, but I also have a rack of big servers in the shop, so it would not be reasonable to keep things like that running, and I do shut them down during power outages.

However, I also have. a smart-home that I built with https://www.home-assistant.io/

Since the Fordpass App can fully integrate with Home Assistant, I can trigger a smart home automation to shut off all devices I don't need so that the charge lasts longer:

https://github.com/itchannel/fordpass-ha

So, out of the box, 3 days. With the automation I plan on running to ensure that the least power is used when the truck switches to powering the house, I will probably be able to hit 10 days with ease.

I'm on the list so not anti ev as some claim but I'm also looking at this without rose-colored glasses. EV have a lot of benefits but there are a lot of moving parts that still need a lot of work.

My son drives quarter midget race cars, we pull our trailer 100+ miles one way for races sometimes, these tracks are not sitting next to Walmarts (which most don't accommodate evs with a trailer anyways) so I'm glad my order has been pushed out to 2023 probably 2024 the way things are going. The current lightning won't make it 200 miles towing on one charge.

Towing a trailer up north is common where I live and you are almost always good 100+miles one way.

My wife's vehicle is a 2013 Edge with 88000 miles when that goes we will probably get an EV and keep my 21 Lariat to do truck things.

Yep. Absolutely. If we had to trailer over long distances, that would be a serious issue for the Lightning. In that case we would be looking at the best towing/MPG. But the longest we have ever towed something with the Jeep was 150 Miles - twice. And that would be OK with the Lightning.

I don't think the Lighting is for everyone - heck, this will be the first Ford vehicle I have ever owned, I am not a "buy the badge" sort of consumer.

But I do think gas prices will have people looking a lot more.

I hope the Lightning buyers have a wonderful experience and love there trucks. That’s not sarcasm, I genuinely hope the F-150 lives on as the Lightning since society is marching toward replacing ICE. I hope one day a Lightning can go 300+ miles towing a 5000lb trailer, that would be an EV truck that would peak my interest.

Oil prices go up, Oil prices go down, that’s life, will current trends in oil prices drive people toward EVs in the near future, probably, but I’d also wager an uptake in smaller used vehicles/motorcycles and certainly less driving. I know when I was working for barely above minimum wage in the 2010s and gas was $4 a gallon, despite my CBR at the time being capable of 50+ MPG, there were way less joy rides and I tried to make the most of my work commute. Granted an EV wasn’t really an option then and I’m having a hard time seeing how high fuel prices would make average wage workers consider an EV and option now, unless it’s an older used one (not saying that doesn’t impact demand, just saying the EV market is still very expensive to access unless you’re buying a super old Tesla.)

There isn't inventory for EVs or ICE right now for gas prices to make that big of a difference. By the time inventory rolls around this current administration will most likely be gone and we will be back to $2-3/gal gas.

That's the problem we are in this position because of one side wants extraordinary high gas prices to push their agenda.

We would transition to EV with $2 gas and that transition would allow manufacturers to work on the technology to provide affordable EV alternatives now one side is hoping by destroying an entire countries economy they will force people into EVs. Most people will ride this out instead of buying a vehicle that doesn't suit their needs.
