I don't know that this falls under an "issue", but at a minimum it is a very poor software implementation. Since it was only 106 degrees in Dallas today I'm getting into a decent habit of "starting" the truck before I go anywhere. Twice today I needed to put some things in the frunk before driving. As soon as you open the frunk - the AC goes off. You can hear it running loudly as you go to the truck. Push the frunk button and it stops. I didn't notice if all accessories shut back down, but at a minimum the AC stops for sure.

No need that I can see or understand - I "started" the truck, I know it is running, just because I open the frunk doesn't mean it should shut back down.

While we are here we might as well cover the horrible decision to not allow remote start from the key fob. Very poor.

That is interesting and concerning. I wonder if there is a possibility that it could be mitigated through one of the menu settings?

On an ICE truck, opening the hood before, or after, a remote start disables it for safety. It would be a big oops if the Lightning had that feature as it is unnecessary.

I think this is a standard way it works for cars.

My ioniq 5 does the same thing. Open doors or cargo and it stops.

My workaround for that car is that if I use the remote start on the key fob which also activates cooling, then it will continue to run the ac even if doors open.

Sometimes I may do:

Remote ac with phone
Put something in cargo
Lockup, remote start with fob for AC again.

There are moving mechanical components under the frunk that would be potentially accessible if you remove some panels. It seems silly to disable them since you have to remove the panels before you could accidentally stick your hand in a moving part, but maybe that's their rationale.

My Tesla works the same way. Open any door, hatch, or frunk and the AC/heating stops.

Just to clarify, when you open the door after remote starting, the AC does not stop. Nor does it stop if you open the trunk.

Since everyone is describing similar operations on various BEVs, I wonder if this is some sort of standard requirement - such as from SAE.

I just tested this on my Model S and if I turn on the the AC remotely, it keeps running no matter if I open the frunk, door, or hatch. Sounds like a bug in Ford's software since there is no real need for the HVAC to stop until you tell it to.

Confirmed also on a Model 3 just now. Start car/AC remotely. Open Frunk - AC continues to run just normal.

Hard to see any reason Ford would stop the AC just for opening the Frunk. It likely adds more wear and tear to the AC to stop for just a minute while you load the Frunk and then get in to drive.

Hoping they will get this and get it updated. We've got to find a feedback mechanism for Ford. Not sure they traditionally listen or care, but hoping this will be different with the EV. Once again, just need Farley to put his money where his mouth is.

I know Ford does monitor this forum. We're not likely to receive any notification that "hey, we got you, see you in the next update!" but I consider it to be the best we've got right now.

A lot of these companies are attempting to copy some of the things that made Tesla so popular which I see as a good thing for the consumer. OTA updates have at least been advertised as something Ford will be doing to improve the vehicles down the road. Let's hope they deliver on that. At this early stage of the EV game everyone has something to prove, so there is a lot riding on the company being able to deliver on those promises as the industry pivots.

How do we know this isn't intentional? Wouldn't you want to prevent remote start when working under the frunk?

Does tesla allow you to remote start when the Frunk is open?

Remote start is good for 15 min. Then shuts off. Did you open frunk at that time?

I just tested turning the HVAC on with the frunk open on my Model S and it started right up. HVAC and the frunk/doors should have nothing to do with each other. I know when I'm loading up for a trip I will be charging the car, preheating/cooling the cabin, and opening the frunk/hatch/doors. I don't want the HVAC turning off. This will be especially true for the Lightning since I won't be able to park in my garage.

Model S will let you start HVAC when the frunk is open, but not if the rear hatch or any doors are open.

The software *used* to shut the car off if you turned on cabin HVAC then opened and closed a door, but I do believe that has changed with some later releases.

(Note that Tesla doesn't use the concept of "started" - cabin stuff is available if someone is in the car, keys or not... the closest thing to "starting" is that to transition into a driving mode, you step on the brake pedal with the key in the car. And when you're done driving, you open the door and get out, and the car transitions back into its other mode, no need to push a button to turn it off. Once you get used to that, the whole "push-to-start" thing seems so outdated and unneeded.)
