Sorry if this is common knowledge, but I was really frustrated thinking that I couldn’t set a charge limit except for the 1 time limit adjustment.

Turns out if you go into/edit the “Charging Locations” screen (toward bottom of picture - on the “Charge” settings section) you can set permanent limits for specific locations. This will work perfectly for me since the only places I regularly care about the limit are at home and work, so I set both for 90% to help with battery life. Anywhere else I’m fine either setting a 1 time limit of needed, but I doubt I’ll be charging many places on the road where I accidentally go over 90%.

I went through this same frustration yesterday. I can't imagine why there's not a setting for "everywhere". The Bolts that I had previously had that.

You have to plug in for a short period to "establish" a location, then you can set times and charge limits for it.

Yeah I found that confusing too. But I do like the fact that you can have different settings for different locations.

I went through the same frustration when I first picked up the truck, and went to charge it that night. I also like the feature of location based max charge, however I do wish there was a "global" max charge limit - @Ford Motor Company

Also note that you should check this after every dealership or OTA update. Some will erase the charging locations and you have to re-establish them.

I might be in the minority here, but I'm just gonna let it charge to 100%. I'm gonna run it down between 5-80% every day, then charge it back up. I assume there is some upper buffer the same way there is lower buffer built in to the programming of the BMS.

I’m not sure there’s a great reason not to be a little nicer to your battery (most companies recommend not charging to 100% regularly), but over time would be interesting to see whether folks taking your approach really did do worse on battery degradation, or alternatively that the difference is negligible.

It seems crazy that they would first allow target charge levels at specific locations and THEN push an update to allow target charge levels everywhere. What is the thought process? Owners may want to charge to less than 100 percent. Let's make them plug in, establish this as a charge location, and then select the target charge level. I definitely prefer to select a level less than 100 percent and let me change it as desired. At least they will eventually allow this.

FYI. An observation on a FordPass app software glitch observed when changing max. charge settings at a location.

I had my home charge location Target Charge Level set to 100% since I’ve been using a 120V@20A garage outlet while waiting on my FCSP arrival/install…I charge at a local 150W DC charger as needed.

Based on information digested from listening to this forum, I decided to reduce the max. Target Charge at my home from 100% to 90%….did so using my trucks UI and this change to 90% properly reflected in my FordPass app.

I plugged the truck in to charge this afternoon after running errands all morning and the app estimated the charge session would be completed to Target Charge Level of 100% SoC late this evening.

I doubled checked the max charge settings in both my truck and my FordPass app….both show the max. charge set to 90%.
Ford F-150 Lightning PSA - Setting Charge Limit (not one-time) E7A93CE3-71C9-4D12-9B9F-9D0A4D38A703

Tonight’s charge session ended at the estimated time at 90% per the settings (not 100%) and the app now shows the Target Charge for the session was 90%, not 100% as previously displayed during the charge session.
Ford F-150 Lightning PSA - Setting Charge Limit (not one-time) BAB1C59A-4962-439D-883B-A3D3E2260908

Apparently, the app will show during a charge session that the Target Charge Level for the current session is the Target Charge Level % of the previous session for the location (if different)…. and, does not update any change in the Target % until the current charge session is completed.

Confused…me too. In summary:
  1. All Target Charge setting changes (e.g. 100 to 90%) on the truck and the app sync (100% reduced to 90%) as expected.
  2. The charge session stops at truck/app set (e.g. 90%) at the app displayed forecasted time per those settings, but during the charge, it says it’s going to charge to the previous set Target charge level(e.g. 100% at 300+ mi. est. range).
  3. The display in the app then changes to the new Target Charge Level (e.g. 90% at a 270+ est. range) when the session ends.

So what I am trying to figure out is why so many here have pushed for the 80% mark. I too have set mine to 90%, and might adjust it further to 95%.

Just wondering where this number of 80% actually came from.

Thank you for posting this. Took me weeks to believe I wasn't missing something.

It really is crazy to me that there is not a global override... But I made a home charging location and that covers a vast majority of charging, so hopefully we are good now :)

This would be frustrating that precious settings aren’t retained.
