I'm in the same boat. Blend date was 11/16, shipped on 11/28. Ford says ETA is 12/16-12/22 but according for Ford's CS and my dealer it's still in Blue Island, Illinois as of yesterday. I have railcar, but have been unable to track is successfully. Dealer says is very unlikely to arrive in CA before the end of the year, I'm still hopeful. It should qualify for some tax credit in 2023 as it's an SR XLT so well under the $80K cap.

Does the truck have to be delivered in ‘22? My dealer is telling me that if I pay for it now, they will do the necessary paperwork and I will be able to claim the tax credit this year. Is he just trying to get my cash now or is there any merit to this?

I've been told a couple times by people here that this is not possible, you must take possession.

Ask him if he’ll testify for you if you get audited. 😄

How does the IRS know when you've taken possession? Especially if all documentation reads 2022? Serious questions.

Because they wrote about it on a public forum.

Dealers (at least smart ones) won't do this.

What happens if your truck is damaged on the way to the dealer (has happened to multiple forum members)?

Liability, fraud...is it really worth it?

For those hoping, my details
Blend 12/1 (moves to “in production”)
Built 12/12 (moved to “built”)
Website says estimated delivery 12/26-1/1, but I’m not holding my breath.
If it shows up 1/1 or later, dealers luck and he’ll get to make a profit with another buyer.

There are multiple levels of lies that has to be told. Dealer has to tell Ford they have received the vehicle when they have not. There will be shipping documents that is proof to the contrary. You will also be taking a risk saying you have received a vehicle you have not. If you are a victim of fraud, you have to take it and be quiet. All for $3,750. Is it worth it?

I have two Lightnings that I probably won't have by the end of the year.

A 2023 Lariat ER I ordered that was on chip hold and finally got built on 12/9. No shipment or delivery ETA yet.

A 2022 Lariat ER I found as a dealer mannequin that I bought. They won't let me have it yet. That's another story, but also unlikely by year end. Only bought because I stumbled on one exactly as I wanted it, reasonable price, "available" I was told, could put my hands on it, and not missing any of the features like the one I ordered. Thought I'd take it and let my ordered one go to someone else. Not going as planned...

My attorney says I can walk from the mannequin deal at the 30 day mark, or anytime after, if they don't deliver the truck as the state allows them 30 days to do so. After that the sales contract is no longer binding. I will probably do that....

But... I may buy the 2023 I ordered and continue to wait for the mannequin as we need a new company truck too. The Lariat is overkill and too luxurious for the company needs, but it may just make the most sense to take the Lariat and move on. Since it's going to be a long time before I can get a Pro or XLT with ER battery without buying second-hand... And prices keep going up.

The tax legislation says the vehicle must be placed into service. So in addition to the sales paperwork, you need temp tags/ temp registration that they would issue for you to drive it off the lot. This is one of my current issues with my mannequin deal. Truck is there at the dealership, but the sale is not complete until I can drive it off the lot. They won't print temp registration and issue temp tags for it until they can deliver the truck. If that doesn't happen on or before December 31, then I miss the tax credit. Even though I've already "bought" the truck.

So pre-sale paperwork does you no good if they don't have the vehicle to initiate the registration process with.

I have filed for the Federal tax incentive twice before and both times they needed the registration info in addition to the purchase agreement/bill of sale.

Argh.. Grumble grumble.
I'm in the MY 2022 club that will miss out on the entire EV credit, only because my MSRP is $80,011 .
Current delivery estimate (from the famously unreliable Ford email) is 12/10-12/16 and the ordertracker still just shows built (since 10/22/22).
How does one go back in time to April and tell your past self "No! Don't buy the Ford branded emergency medical kit!" This is what I get for getting excited about earthly possessions.

(reservation 8/21, Order 4/28/22, In Production 10/13, Built 10/22/22)

Cguy from my state got it in 19 days. If I am just as lucky, I could get it right before new year. But you don't have to be as lucky. You are closer to MI.
