Steps you can, and should take, to ensure that your state doesn't give money to chargers that aren't usable

Many Tesla Superchargers can't charge a Mach-E, a Lightning, and many other EVs without parking at the end spot, or parking sideways. I've learned the following:

1) The federal government doesn't decide who gets the funds, the state does.

2) The NEVI standards don't address cord length.

I have spent a total of 15 minutes reaching out to my state, and getting in touch with the team that will be approving funding, and ensuring that they recognize this situation, and withhold funds from locations that don't allow charging by any CCS-equipped vehicle. While not in the standards, I've received an acknowledgement of recognition of the issue, and the statement back - "Myself and others on the NEVI Project Management Team will take this into consideration if any Tesla charging stations apply. We want what is best for all EV users and intend to reflect this in the NEVI investments."

Please take a few minutes of your day, reach out to your state, and ask them to do what I've asked my state to do, not dole out funds to chargers that cannot be used by everyone due to an inability of the cord to plug in.

Sent my opinion to the state of Kansas. Require Tesla to have appropriate cables or station design to receive any government funds under NEVI.

Who do we contact in Virginia?
Direct email to: [email protected]

Please send them your comments about universal charging accessibility. There's a group planning DCFC locations along Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFC) in Virginia using NEVI funding.

I got a prompt response to some comments I sent a few weeks ago concerning the Eastern Shore/Route 13 corridor being left off current plans and a significant chunk lopped off of one of their maps. Maryland made their part of US 50/US 13 an AFC right to the VA state line. In VA, not even a 25 kW Chargepoint for CCS vehicles in over 100 miles.

I pointed out in my comments the problem with the short cables on the Tesla chargers being experienced on the few test CCS converted chargers.
I also requested they consider charger designs with pull through for pickups pulling trailers.

the only problem with "requiring" them to have longer cables is the added cost likely will reduce the chances that they install any magic docks in Kansas. I get that we'd all would like governments to create and enforce standards, but regulation does increase cost. My suggestion is that we all write to Tesla suggesting that if they want to increase revenue though other EV's using their network they should consider modifying their design.

That would be a total waste of your time. Do you think that this is an unknown (the short cord not reaching many vehicles)? Telsa knows.

I look at the long term. Not half *** them.
I'd rather wait & have chargers that are what's required, if Tesla cannot make them adequate they shouldn't get credit for them. How do we know that's saving any money. Would Tesla get full credit for these chargers the same as a fully new charger? I don't know the answer to that.
