My CSP is not in a garage. Rather it is up by the road, 60 feet from the house.
Have you considered ordering a directional antenna that can concentrate signal from your router to FCSP ?

There are plenty of ways to extend wifi from a dedicated wifi to wifi booster or to a powerline to wifi or hardwired.

All sorts of reports of issues with smart devices in garage. Everything from neighbor kid to radar to fluorescent bulbs and more can be at fault.

Didn't I read where you can hard wire it?

I didn't know there was such a thing. I've got a techie friend who I'm going to invite to the cabin (in Maine) for a weekend and I'll ask his advice. I"ll pass along your suggestion.

I am not sure this will help but i connected ours this morning after not being successful yesterday. Our wifi is a little further away than yours. I could not get it to connect yesterday from just outside of the garage (about 10 feet from the charger.) This morning I went out to the garage with my iPhone and stood next to the charger and after 3 attempts, I was able to get it to connect and now it is working perfect.

I have the same question about the need for internet access. I plan to install 2 CSPs. One will be 5 miles in the country and the other will be 20 miles in the country without IP access. Yes I live in South Dakota. To bring internet to the one 20 miles out will cost in excess of $100,000. Not residential therefore not essential. It is also in a location that is not cellular accessible.

Internet access is a nice to have feature, absolutely not required. If you find that you need to update the firmware, you should be able to use a local hotspot from a phone or satellite service. There are several folk who don't bother and just use it as a "dumb" charger. You can still set the charge rate using the hardware switch on the inside of the unit.

Do you have internet at the location that is 5 miles into the country?

If so, I'd try to get both units powered up briefly at that location, baseline the firmware to the latest available, then redeploy one of them to the 20 miles out location, at which point it will be a dumb charger.

Had mine installed yesterday, plan to update and keep it a dumb charger. At best I’ll put it my IoT subnet. All these smart devices are security risks.

The site 5 miles out is still not have internet but I can use cellular there. If the chargers will operate dumb, I can bring the charger there to update over my cell laptop.

They will operate autonomously, it's actually your truck that commands the start/stop of the charging session, the parameters set onboard in the truck should work independent of a wifi or cell signal.

You're just going to miss out on remote control using Fordpass and the FCSP charging details (that most folks don't look at) hopefully the truck side charging data that you see under the [Vehicle] pane of Fordpass might be visible later, assuming FP cache's that information and posts it to the cloud later when you phone & truck are in range of a cell signal.

I'd love to hear what your experiences are in real life.

Same issue with my FCSP installed today 6/14/2024.
It's in a garage, and while my smart phone and tablet can receive the house wi-fi just fine, the CSP cannot connect.
I was told by the help line that it is limited to 2.4GHz wi-fi, so I tried connecting to an network extender (Actiontec) that sits about 20 feet away in the living room, but there are two walls between, one of them a brick wall in the garage, and no go. Again, the tablet had no problemo connecting.
So, I wasted a lot of time today screwing around with the FCSP Set up app that didn't mention I have to add the FCSP as a new network--I was trying to add a new device.
Also has anyone been able to get the app to read the f-ing tiny QR code?
In camera mode, I can take a picture of it fine and it reads the mac address etc. from the QR code, but when using the add new device or add new network, crickets.
The tech help admitted there are a lot of issues with just setting it up.

Do I really need the FCSP connected to my FordPass app?

I guess not. I can charge the truck without it.

I could put a spare Actiontec extender I have in the garage, but I'd have to run another coax and special signal splitter from the main FiOS coax source up into the attic and down into the garage.

I just spent a couple days routing 70 feet of #3 and #6 wire in 1" flexible conduit through the attic sweating my b's off, so not keen on the idea right now.

The tech help person said the only real downside is not getting updates, but like others have said, not a big deal.

And experience with software and computers tells me: if it ain't broke, don't update it! All I need it to do is charge my truck.

When I installed my CSPs, I used the hotspot in the Lightning to link them and do the updates. Only need wifi for about 10 minutes. The one sitting 20 miles out still doesn't have access so it will probably never get another update. There was an update when I installed mine about the first of March. I think the update was supposed to fix connectivity issues but have no real idea.
