Is there any adapter I can buy to extend the length of the charger pro? Mine is installed in the garage but I charge outside. The problem is that I would like to reverse park my truck but I can't because the cable isn't long enough for me to close the garage. Just wondering if there are options for an extension but ones that fit the charger pro CCCS adapter. lmk if someone knows. First world problem.

Thanks.

I’ve seen J1772 extensions like this one but it might need some DIY modification for a straight j1772 receptacle to fit the charge pro plug with CCS pins. I’ve never seen a CCS extension cord probably because people would try and fast charge with them and melt something.

A couple things to note is the 40A max and the fact that I don’t think it’s a UL/code compliant adapter, but I’m pretty sure that’s the case for any EV extension cord solution and it should still work if you get the cord to mate with the charge pro plug.

You have a 80amp charger, the referenced cable MAY handle 40 amps for a period of time. If you find an extension be sure it is rated for 80amp and is UL approved. Can you go thru the garage wall with a access port and make your existing cable work?

Exactly. It needs for be rated for 80-amp. Need 6 gauge wire for sure. Haven’t seen anything I could find.

Unfortunately there isn't one out there. I have an extension cord that I use when camping. It is rated for 50 amps but only fits Level 2 plugs. The Charge Pro receptacle has the CCS standard. They made the extension cords to only work with 36/40/48 amps Level 2 receptacles. Even the Tesla adaptors are only for 40/48 amps Level 2 receptacles. 80 amps is some serious juice coming out from your distribution box of your home. Stand next to the Charger and you can hear it flowing. The cable gets warm and very flexible. Safety was the reason Ford had in mind not to able to do that. Run an extension to the 80 amps Charger. People will find a way to do it.
Try to explain this when something really goes wrong in your accident/warranty report.

My thought is to rewire the cable with one long enough to reach. I'm not sure what kind of cable it is and I'm sure it would be expensive but it should work.

It’s a 6/3 AWG. We ran a 6/3 to a new subpanel in the garage at 100-amps. From the subpanel with 100-amp breaker it goes to the charger. So 6 AWG handles 80-amps.

This is why pre-installation you need to lay out where things will be and measure. The charger can be anywhere in your garage with conduit.

After using it for 4-months, outside would have been better but there just isn't any place where it would have been installed without some conduit running along the outside of the house. Wife wouldn't have been happy with that. Again, it's a first world problem that I'm trying to figure out.

Unfortunately, no such 80amp extension exists. Dial down the charger to the 40amp level and you're all set.

A simple Google search would tell you that you cannot use 6AWG for a 100amp circuit.

Firstly I apologize. It’s 3 awg wire. I’m running a 6awg for my Nena 14-50 outlet at the cottage so I got my wires crossed.

Certified electrician installed this at home. ESA inspected as well.
