Yes the HVAC system in this truck is terrible. My Auto gives me the highest fan speed on 2 and sometime the difference between 1 and 3 is imperceptible. Manual fan speeds don't seem to pick up until you nearly max out. Is this a Lightning thing or do all F150's have this issue. An 80K truck should have a state of the art system but this isn't it.

Auto mode, especially for AC, seems to work terribly in every vehicle I've ever owned. But yes, the HVAC in the Lightning is just not that good. I don't know how it compares to other current model F-150s, but compared to the AC in my other Fords I own or have owned over the past several years ('18 Expedition, '16 F-350, '14 Explorer, '21 Bronco Sport) it's not good. It gets the job done and it's not the worst HVAC system out there by any means, I'm just used to my 350 and Expedition being able to turn the cab into a meat locker pretty quickly, even driving through Arizona in July. The seat heating/cooling in the Expedition is way better and more evenly distributed -- Expedition seats get super cold and the heat goes nicely up my back. The ventilated seats on my Lightning do get cold, but level 3 in the lightning is not quite level 2 in the Expedition and the Lightning heat/cool on the seats doesn't distribute heat or cooling anywhere near as well.

It's difficult to compare heating with ICE vehicles that produce engine heat. I will say that the resistive heater in the Lightning seems to be terribly inefficient given what many small and efficient space heaters on the market can do for heating rooms. I get it needs to use a resistive heater for battery conditioning in the cold and the ER battery places the cab on a separate loop (additional heater?) it just seems to suck up way more power than it should and takes to long to heat things up.

I think there is a misunderstanding of the Auto Fan Speed. From my understanding, Auto 1, 2, or 3 means that it is the highest fan speed it will use. It is not to select a constant fan speed. For example, if you select 1, it will always be on 1. If you select 3, it will vary the speed between 1 and 3.

Is there a Max AC button I am missing? I see the one for defrosting, but not one for cooling the truck down. I usually turn the truck on and manually set the fan speed to 7, but in a lot of cars they just have a Max AC button that does the same thing.

It's on the climate screen.

Not to fully stick up for Ford, but I haven't really noticed a deficiency in this area when driving alone or with passengers.
When it comes to the HVAC system in the Ford Lightning, it's important to understand that Ford likely had numerous priorities to address while developing this groundbreaking vehicle. The Ford Lightning represents a significant leap forward in terms of electric vehicle technology, performance, and functionality. As a result, Ford's primary focus was on perfecting crucial elements such as the electric drivetrain, battery efficiency, towing capacity, and overall vehicle dynamics.
While the HVAC system is undoubtedly important for providing comfort and climate control, it's worth noting that achieving perfection in this aspect may not have been the highest priority for Ford during the development process. Designing and engineering a reliable and efficient electric powertrain, as well as ensuring the Lightning's overall performance, were likely given greater attention and resources.
Moreover, climate control is a subjective matter, both in vehicles and homes. No matter how advanced or sophisticated an HVAC system may be, there will always be individuals who feel too hot or too cold and are not completely satisfied with the current settings. Personal preferences, varying body temperatures, and climate conditions can greatly influence how individuals perceive and experience climate control.
That being said, Ford has made significant strides in the field of electric vehicles, and they continue to refine and improve their offerings with each iteration. It's reasonable to expect that future iterations of the Ford Lightning, or other Ford electric vehicles, will see further enhancements in the HVAC system as customer feedback and evolving technology inform their design decisions. I'm sure they are thankful for these comments that have been made and we are glad they are following these forums.

Yes, there is a max cooling button, if you open the HVAC screen.

And, if you put AC on FLOOR or FLOOR AND VENT, instead of AUTO, I believe the back vents will produce more air, because I believe they are fed off of FLOOR.

In addition, make sure that DRIVER FOCUSED is off.

Kids were complaining the second row wasn't cold enough. So I bought a dual head USB fan from Amazon that clips onto the headrests and plug it into the cigarette outlet behind the center console.

Now the kids complain that it's too cold. Good thing the fan heads can pivot in any direction.

I've had a few F150s, now the lightning. Generally speaking, my kids have always loved taking the truck, due to the back seat space. However, they have had issues with the cooling back there, in each truck. Actually, now that I think about it, this complaint has been in most of our car/suvs too. I guess the kids are probably the problem...

Growing up in Texas we used the 440 AC system.
Four windows down at 40 mph.

Your kids might actually love it. We did.
