Breaking a working truck because they can’t do the software update is the best way for Ford to sell R1T and Cybertruck. Incompetence to complete the software update is something I can live with but telling me I can’t use my truck because of it is a new low. I may have to get some anti anxiety medication for the next update:

Can you juice up your 12V with a strong juicer and keep it connected, restart and see if the error comes back? Or if you have another car in driveway try it with that battery just so you can move the truck? If you are seeing the message your 12V can’t be completely dead.
I’ve tried it all. This was the 14th attempt on this update after three failures on the previous one. I’ve charged the battery, driven for over an hour just before starting the update, and done the BMS reset. There’s a part of me that is glad it finally bricked so it will force some action.

mine went through at around the same point. It could be easily me in your shoes. You have a much better attitude than me in dealing with it. Please keep us posted.

On my 14th try I got this. Waiting for the tow truck.

Wow - sorry to see this. Very discouraging.

The really big deal - they tell the tow truck driver how to get the truck into neutral - NOT - those are for some other vehicle, not the Lighting. No wonder their SW is bricking trucks, this is their attention to detail.

So those are the correct instructions. I showed the driver how to do it. It does seem to be missing a step though because as soon as I released the pedals it put itself back into park (the door was open). You need to press the Neutral button to keep it in Neutral for 30 minutes before you release the pedals.

Well- it notes pressing the button in the middle of the dial. It does note if applicable. I thought there was another step in the Lightning.

So I may be corrected here, but truly no Lightning has a dial, so why mention it if not applicable.

Need to close the door
So if I had put it in neutral with the door closed, then released the pedals and opened the door it would have stayed in neutral? I had the door open so the tow truck driver could see what I was doing and he would know how to get it back in neutral when he dropped it off.

After more than a few dozen failed attempts at this update (first time failures have ever happened), the update notification went away and was completely cancelled, leaving me the message pictured. Called Ford thinking they had pulled the update, but after a long time on hold as a very nice woman tracked down answers, she said my update was automatically cancelled due to multiple failures for the same issue (12v battery). I guess there’s a failsafe at some point? She said my truck has been placed in the back of the update queue and that there’s nothing they can do remotely. Lovely! She suggested taking it in to have the 12v looked at. Tested it myself and it is completely charged up and healthy. What a mess.

@carys98 Do you think the BMS reset could have been a contributing factor if it told the system the battery was good? I’ve had 28 failed updates and considering moving to a more aggressive attempt by charging the LVB and doing a reset but this makes me nervous as I’m not sure what a BMS reset really does on these trucks (vs an ICE).

I’ve been advised to do the reset by people that do know what the reset does so I assume it is OK. I don’t think the reset was a cause but it may have finally exposed the faulty battery.

Mine has done the same thing. I'm scheduled for a light switch replacement on Tuesday so will have them try the update.

In the same boat, I'm also going in Tuesday for my 10K mile service and will ask them to install any updates.

So for the first time I had several failed attempts to install this update. All of the sudden this morning I get a notification of a successful update! However when looking at the notes, the truck installed the ”drunk chime” update. Did it skip over this one and install that or did it pump both updates at once?

Go to your ford pass app on your phone, select account, select message center, highlight the latest “you’re rolling with the latest ford power up”, then hit update details. That should you if pu 0306 installed.
