Glad you and everyone else is ok!👍 Any damage to the battery? If cover is scraped that will cause a total loss on its own.

Not sure yet if the battery pack was damaged at all. The body shop just got the vehicle this afternoon and is starting to take a look. I heard them mention to the receptionist that they're assuming it'll be a total loss, but won't know more until probably tomorrow.

@bellyer sorry to burst your bubble 🫧

Jim Farley did lead us to believe that(provide), but not gonna happen. Declining sales, and increased competition just not financially feasible to send for free. A short time after Farley spoke one of their Financial big wigs clarified, by saying they would be available. Cha-Chin. 💰 💰 💰

realistically no reason for them to provide for free. truck was introduced with a different plug system, we got on board with that. Tesla chargers will be a great range anxiety, charger availabiliary alternative. But paying for your own adapter won’t be end of the world
Who cares if it's free or not. If you use it often, $200 for the adapter isn't a big deal. If it is, maybe you shouldn't have bought a $70k vehicle.

Right. I don't think I was complaining. That is why I responded to that comment with the below a few days ago...

So, Ford isn't going to provide the free adapters, after all?

Nobody knows. Ford probably doesn't even know yet.

Back to the topic at hand. It's shocking just how expensive it has gotten to repair vehicles. And also it seems that with some vehicles, a very small amount of damage to the battery enclosure requires replacement of the entire battery pack.
They need to be able to repair/replace components of the battery pack or insurance costs for EVs is going to become astronomical.

It seems that Ford has been able to replace individual modules when doing the battery recall or other warranty repairs. However, a forum member had their battery punctured by branch and I believe the entire pack was replaced by insurance.

Well, it seems the vehicle is repairable. The estimate is coming in at just under $20,000. Now, since my insurance company does not deal with Diminished Value claims and this would be on the at-fault driver, does anyone know how I go about chasing down Diminished Value from the other driver's insurance company? Do I need an attorney and a third-party appraiser or just the appraiser or what? I'm lost, but after spending over $100,000 on this truck (yes, I paid more than MSRP when I bought like many of us), I certainly want to make sure that I am covered for diminished value after this. I am currently reaching out to my group legal program through work to see if they can provide an attorney to help with this.

Nobody knows. The only automaker that has pledged the adapter at no-cost is Rivian.

Some of the adapters are popping up for pre-order. But I'll wait to see what Ford does and I want to wait and see which adapter(s) Tesla and Ford approve or endorse.

I'ld gladly take a free adapter. But I'm fully expecting we'll have to buy them. Ford will probably include them as standard with 2024 vehicles.

I believe you make a claim with the at fault party’s insurance under the private property portion of their policy. The states that I have lived in (MI, AZ, FL) have all required this so if they have insurance you should be okay there. Might be a bit of a fight depending on which insurance company it is. Good luck.

The benefits to body on frame. It looks like mostly superficial damage.

However, if the main cab pillars are damaged that would probably write it off.

Nobody enjoys being nickel and dimed to death. I didn't buy an expensive vehicle to then be dumping even more money into it either.

Also, if they don't provide one then I guess I'll have to stick with my current chargers and not spend money at Tesla stations.

Yes, I would contact the at fault parties insurance company and file the claim directly. The question is going to be how much the value is diminished.

20k in repairs seem ridiculously low. I would not accept that it is repairable without seeing a complete itemization of the repairs.

Another member mentioned he received 20k in diminished value. Not sure how he negotiated that but you might want to reach out to him. The formula that most insurance companies use will be nowhere near 20k

Attached is a photo of our '23 Ioniq 5 that was totaled. At fault driver's adjuster went through it in our driveway for three hours. He came up with 35k in repairs and estimated it would probably need another 15k after the body shop dug into it. He also mentioned a lot of parts not being immediately available.

Wow, maximum time to wait for parts availability should be written into insurance laws. No more than 30 calendar days or the vehicle is totaled? Also, need totaled value to be amount to buy equivalent vehicle + $5K hassle money!

Sorry about your truck, glad you are all OK and thankful for you that there were witnesses!

If they total it, can you snag me the LIGHTNING letters off one side of the bed? I want to try the Lightning letters on the light bar :)
I swear I saw this somewhere in the forum but can't find the thread. Got a link?
