I am considering buying a Lighting and wondering what exactly is the difference when adding the 9.6kW option. Do you not get the 240v outlet without this option?

sw engineering manager,
Also, its a pre-req. for Max Tow on the SR battery (additional battery cooling is part of the pro power system). I will rarely use the Pro Power, but I got it because I wanted Max Tow.

I am going to use the 9.6KW as a battery backup for the house. The weather is getting more energetic which, as we're seeing, means more power outages. A week after I ordered the truck, we had a 15 hour outage which was a first according to people who've been in the neighborhood a long time. One of these days my truck will show up too!! :)

Be aware that 9.6 is the combined output of the 2 inverters. The ProPower in the bed is 7.2 KW of that, the other 2.4 KW inverter supplies the interior and frunk receptacles.

Good point, I was planning on only the 7.2KW output for the house. Thanks for clarifying!!

I would also point out the following.

The truck can provide power to the house IF:

- It is parked at the house at time of outage.
- You are home to connect it (unless you have it setup for the automatic solution).
- It has enough charge to power the house for the length of the outage.

We went with a whole house generator because if the truck is 5 states away, it powers nothing...

I actually use both inverters. I use the 7.2 kw for 240 volt items well pump, mini split, water heater, and use the 2.4. Kw for the 120 volt items, refrigerator , microwave, internet.

Technically three inverters.
2.4kW for frunk/cab
2x3.6kW for bed. One for each leg.
Don’t even want to think of how many hours I poured over the specs in 2022 🤪

From a usability standpoint, it’s easiest to consider the ones feeding the bed as a single unit.

For 240 completely agree.
But good to know the design should you need to put a big load on it from multiple devices. I carry a 4 way splitter that gives me 2 120 outlets on each leg. I’ll probably never need it, but like to have it.

Have you tested using it? I struggle visualize how that would work, presuming the two inverters are internally connected at the 240V center point.

I haven’t but out of spec on YouTube did it when charging 5 EVs from the Lightning.

On the 2.4 kW versions, is the truck divided into 2-3 inverters also? Or everything on one?

Its one inverter feeding the same outlets everywhere on the base model.

The propower adds on a 2nd inverter at 7.2kw for the 9.6kw total. That second inverter is a split phase inverter and is required for the 240v bed outlet.
