Do 2024 Pre-Orders Lose the Tax Credit?

The window sticker for my 2024 Lightning just posted. I preordered my truck on 10/21/23 through my dealer. Unfortunately, the latest price increases are reflected on the window sticker putting my truck over the $80k tax credit limit… by $90.

@Ford Motor Company said they were going to honor 2024 pre-order prices. Does anyone know if the invoice will reflect the MSRP when I ordered the truck? Do I need to get Ford to change the pricing on the window sticker?

I think you’re stuck. Probably best to lose your deposit and reorder without the bedliner. Or find one on the lot somewhere.

Wow, just wow. That's really sucks. While you should get price protection (sometimes not easy-depends on dealer) that won't be reflected on the sticker. Maybe Ford will give a $7500 private offer - didn't they do that before when rebates were impacted??

Dealer's going to have a hard time selling that to anyone. And you're likely not the only one this impacts. The margin for options on the Lariat ER is $504 to get the rebate. So no Max Tow, SIBL, etc. Pretty much the only thing you can add is Rapid Red.

You only get a 90 day Bluecruise trial on a 2024? Yikes.

Sorry to see that truck missed out on the credit. I like the idea of the factory bed liner, but I would take a Line-X spray in liner over the factory any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Is this dealer offering the point of sale tax credit? I would think eligibility would depend on how Ford or the dealer reports the MSRP to the IRS. For EV tax credits I’ve claimed up to now, they used the Motor Vehicle Purchase Agreement to prove eligibility. The sticker was never part of it. If your purchase agreement shows the lower MSRP, I would think it would still qualify.

Do you have a copy of the order details showing lower locked values?

For these new rebates (2022+) the purchase price is irrelevant. MSRP excluding destination and delivery is the number you need to be under 80K.

The new pricing put's him over by $90, but I think he will be OK with locked in price protection

Right. But the MSRP for the truck they ordered was lower at the time they ordered it than what it is now. And Ford has said they’ll honor the lower price. If the motor vehicle purchase agreement shows the lower MSRP, why wouldn’t it qualify for the credit? The sticker should be irrelevant.

Another interesting data point…..
I ordered a Flash before the price increase. My window sticker also just posted on the dealer website tonight, and it still reflects the old base price of $69,995. Status shows “in production”.
