It's minor, but I don't remember this happening last year (had truck for 18 mo).

Battery at 47%, temp 53° (SoCal), departure time set for 9a to have nice and warm cabin. Truck is an ER.

Yet I have a max output reduction to 94%.

I don't remember seeing it derate until much lower in the battery range.

Is this legit? Some weird new software?

I left work yesterday with the battery at 65% and it was derated to 76% power. Of course, it sat in the parking lot for 12 hours at 4 degrees. It jumped up to 84% after I drove for an hour.

I've noticed that as soon as the temp drops and I'm near 50%, power gets derated pretty quickly. It's 25 degrees out now, but I'm at 63% and it's derated to 87% right now. It will creep up as you drive it though too I feel like.

Oops, that was for the op, just curious if he wasn't plugged in and it was in the 40s at night, that would explain the mild derating.

Totally legit, not new software. This is mine from November 2022.
Edit: SOC ~41% from my trip log. This was way before we got SOC display.

I’m out in KY as I write this. Temp is 12f and I left the house 27 mi. ago with a preconditioned battery with 90% SOC.

Down to 78% now but always showing 100% available. I’ll let you know if it drops by the time I get back to the charger at home.

I feel like there was an update, perhaps to the software that triggers battery heating. Mine was at 90% overnight but I left it unplugged since I had to leave it in a different spot in my driveway. I had around 85% max power available this morning when I started. Exterior temp was around 10-15F. I noticed that the battery temp indicator was much closer to the lower line (still within the range). I never experienced anything like that at higher charge percentages last year. I wonder if they updated just to avoid drain when trucks are left unplugged for longer periods in winter?

You'll definitely see derating when it gets that cold. However, they may have reduced the heat going to the battery via software to improve efficiency. There is a point where it uses more energy than it's worth to preheat fully.
As long as the truck stays reliable I won't worry too much about it.

The super cold conditions required the available power to motors to be reduced, in your case ... 85% on the left side of power graph, I'll assume your SOC on the right side of the graph still showed 90%?

Interesting thread on the Mach-E forum on this topic.
The consensus seems to be that Ford has, indeed, changed the cold weather logic from last winter. The throttling is dependent on both battery temperature and SoC. No idea if this applies directly to the Lightning (different battery, etc) but if it quacks like a duck….

Hmmmm, I would think we should be advised by the MoCo about such a change of strategy
