Powertrain Malfunction - No HVAC

2022 F150 Lightning Lariat SR
2022 Lariat SR 21,700 miles. No issues to this point other than standard recalls. I love the truck and it's a blast to drive.

I've read through the various powertrain malfunction threads and have seen similar but not quite the same issues.

My issue started when I pressed to turn the AC on. The service as soon as possible message appeared along with the wrench. The powertrain/reduced power message also appeared. The AC was not working although the fans were blowing. I observed no noticeable power reduction. The output was 100% and the power distribution between the motors was balanced.

I charged that night from 68% to 90% with no problems. The next morning, the heat did not heat up. The defrost did not heat up. The steering wheel and seat heaters were fine. It was not terribly cold so I drove to work around 28 miles with no other issues other than the warning message and wrench. Home was likewise, no issues other than AC not working. I drove it once more on a 40 mile round trip with the same issues. The final drive was to the dealer 22 miles or so.

The dealer could not figure out the issue initially and wanted more time. They gave me the option to drive it home, but could not guarantee the issue would increase in severity. I left the vehicle.

2 days later the dealer called and said there is no communication to the ACCM and it needs to be replaced. The only code that was pulled was a DTC U351F that indicated a new PTC heater needed to be installed as well.

Both items are backordered. They offered to provide a rental called. I advised them that I could find alternate transportation but would like to be reimbursed mileage. The Ford Relationship Center advised me that Ford will not reimburse mileage. My option would be to get a rental. Seems more expensive for Ford.

I'll see how it goes with part lead-time. I hope the diagnosis is accurate.

Good that you left her to be properly repaired, in the SR Lightning the AC compressor, diverter valves and or PTC are working in concert to keep the traction battery at optimum performance, even with mild weather and short distances you might have been OK but as it gets warmer the pack temps might get to warm.

You are right, it is hard to tell. I did not want to press my luck. I saw the Munro video indicating they shared the compressor, with the cooling system having a chiller as well. I never saw the engine and battery temps move past center. Then again, they never have.

13 days in and no information on part availability. Ford Customer Relations has been no help and has referred me back to the dealership for the part lead-time.

Quick update. 20 days in. I am told the compressor arrived. The heater is still backordered with no available ETA. They did provide a loaner through Enterprise. It's a Jeep Gladiator Mojave. Not bad. For nearly the same MSRP the Lightning is a much better deal.

35 days. Still no eta on the parts needed or any information about availability from Ford or the dealer. I've started the buyback process unfortunately.

Parts availability for broken trucks seems to be a recurring thing. The cost of getting these parts to the dealers to fix the trucks would be so much better financially for Ford than buying back trucks under lemon laws. I'm on day 21 waiting for a new rear motor. Already decided if I hit day 31, I'm triggering Wisconsins lemon law and sending the paperwork to Ford for buyback.

1st you call Ford - then go from there - they check the service records direct.

Yea, will call Ford for the heads up, then send them the completed WI lemon law forms by certified mail. But, they still have about a week to fix the truck....

I like that in the US you have lemon laws. I can’t see that we have any such thing in Canada. We have an arbitration process but as far as I can tell, it’s non-binding. Meanwhile, out of the 17 days I’ve own my truck, i’ve had it in my possession only for 2.
It never ceases to amaze me how large corps will spend exorbitant amounts of money for the sake of an internal process. Process at the expense of productivity.

Ford said they will repurchase due to the global manufacturing delays for new replacement parts. It helps that I also fall within the NC lemon law guideline, which they recognized. I found Ford's baseline for repurchase is typically 18 months. NC moves that to 24 months. 20 business days out of service in a year. Others vary by State. I am waiting on the settlement worksheet.

All through BBB Auto Line thus far. It's the first step in their warranty claims. Haven't informed the dealer yet.

I previously opened a case with Ford utilizing the representative on this forum. I also sent a letter to Ford requesting prompt repair of the issue. I cited the case number, dealership info, and diagnostic sheets from the service department.

I also had a powertrain malfunction/reduced power, service vehicle soon, stop safely now, pedestrian sounder fault service now, trailer brake system fault see manual, high voltage battery warning. The issue ended up being a damaged wiring harness, took few days to diagnose, few weeks wait for parts, 2 days repair and test. I haven't had any issue since.
