This is a long post so bear with me as i would really like your experiences,

I have been wanting to get the updates that add the Walk Away Lock feature with the on/off toggle and the battery percentage shown on the cluster without having to switch to the calm screen. I have researched this enough to know that the BCM has to have an FDRS for the WAL and Batt % and the APIM needs to be updated to version 1122 for the toggle to show up.

I made an appointment at the dealership this morning to have all of this done, I get there at 7AM and immediately start getting resistance from the service writer about updates that can take 4-5 hours. i was not taking no for an answer so he called in the service manager who tried to explain that updates are not covered under warranty and that i would have pay for these services. (this is the dealership I purchased the truck from) I advised him quickly that I paid for a service/maintenance contract when I bought the truck that was to cover any and all software updates for the life of the contract (5 years or 100K Miles) After hemming and hawing he agreed and said he would get it taken care of.

they gave me a ride home and within an hour so the SM called me to let me know that the tech had just connected to the vehicle and was going to start the updates but they wanted me to know that in order to install the lastest updates to the BCM, APIM and all other modules, there may be prerequisite updates needed that could create more issues. he referenced SSM #s: 52679, 52574, and 52039.

These SSM's warn that basically, updating these modules may actually "BRICK" the truck until another solution comes out from Ford or at least cause connectivity, charging and radio problems that truck does not currently have.

But...he said he would push it all through if I wanted them to, he just wanted me to be aware of the potential consequences. I obviously said hell no, I do not want you doing something to my truck you cannot fix. I have attached my request and the SSM info below.

This was going to be part of my 20K mile service visit. So I paid $1500 for a maint. contract that for this truck would cover, tire rotation and balancing (Discount tire will do this for free), Cabin air filters every 20K miles (a $20 filter) and software updates that in 21K miles they have not been able to push through. In addition to all of this, the week after I bought this truck, Ford started lowering the prices on these things by nearly $15K.

I really do love the truck, and aside from not being able to get updates for features I would like, i have had Zero issues thus far. everything has worked and performed as it should.

i am really mostly put off by the crappy dealers doing everything they can to get out of giving us the service we deserve on these trucks. if there are features available, EVRYONE should be able to enjoy them, not just the few that actually get regular OTA updates and have the features made available to them.

What are your experiences and have any of you ran into the issues noted in these SSMs?

There is no walk away feature that a dealer can install, did I miss this update?

Even Tesla wouldn't update those if it wasn't available.

It is part of a BCM update. I have confirmation from several people and the dealer that is is available.

That's good to know! I thought this was just something in FDRS that you would have to do individually and wasn't an official Ford update.

The obvious problem is getting the dealer to actually push it thru. You will also need an APIM update to place a toggle on the screen to turn this feature on/off. with just the BCM update, it will default to on and you cannot turn it off.

Can you have them update just BCM and APIM? I'm not sure those modules trigger the SSM52679 modules and if they do, just have them cancel. I haven't read the thread lately where folks are updating the BCM on their own to know if that triggers any other modules.

I myself am in PCM limbo. The dealer updated mine to the pulled version one day before it was taken down. Have not noticed any ill effects other than the the 12V battery will drain and not automatically top off unless I am charging. So I just make sure to charge it more frequently. When we were gone for 10 days I hooked it up to a battery tender.

I just cannot risk creating one problem to solve another. Especially when the problem I am trying to solve is just a convenience issue. I'll just wait until Ford figures out what they are doing (if they ever do) this is my first Ford product, and although I really do like this truck, because of Ford's lack of software development, it will likely be my last. I also CANNOT STAND the 107 MPH governor on this thing when you can tell the motors are still pulling and capable of much more when they shut down. It s a learning experience.

The mechanical & electrical engineers might have spec'd this for reasons that improve reliability / longevity of affected parts.

Well that is a sensible answer! it is just quite deflating when you get run down in a 580HP, $80K truck by a bone stock Toyota Corolla w/a 4 banger because your power got choked off!

By the time you get to 107 they should be safely in your rear view and it doesn’t matter at that point.

My first question is on the last SSM are you having a high voltage battery module replaced?
I Updated all of the modules (except one:see below )that you are looking at having updated plus one other one I believe (At least I’m pretty sure they are the same other than that one ) I saw your request from rugedraw on the Vin check request list. I looked through your list and my list and they looked about the same could’ve missed one or two one way or the other as there were 12 or 13.
I have a friend that is an independent dealer/mechanic So I borrowed his computer over the weekend to do the FDRS updates. I was unable to do the BCM because he is not a Ford dealer basically.
The IPMA is a three hour update!!

I didn’t complete them until 1 AM Sunday due to issues of my own doing but have not noticed any problems and have to say the truck seems a little bit more responsive or faster maybe??(could be my imagination)LOL

I drove 100 to 200 miles yesterday(didn’t really keep track)-haven’t driven much today but did drive maybe 20.
Hope that gives you some insight??
Your experience may differ.
Edit: I forgot to double check your original post and the first batch of SSM’s To see if they were included because those seem to be the ones causing the problem?

Yea, if someone in a Corolla wants to try to race a Lightning and hit 100 miles per hour I'll just them enjoy themselves and their "win". I'll enjoy being alive.

Regarding the original post the battery percentage comes in an IPC update, when I did mine there was no BCM update required but this was over a year ago so that means nothing at this point.

@ATXORIGINAL What is the last OTA update you received?

FWIW, I haven't found a dealer in the Austin area I trust either. They all suck.

The Last Update I received was - ECG-24.2.4.9

And 100% on Crappy dealers....and it was no different with Chevrolet and its no different with Cadillac either. Covert is the WORST!
