Any thoughts on why this is not working?

I have AMPROAD iFlow P9 EV Charger Level 2 & 1 seen here, and a RVGUARD 50 Amp to 110 Volt RV Adapter NEMA 5-15P to NEMA 14-50R seen here. I'm connecting 14-50P to 14-50R. Should work, right? Yet I have no power on the Amproad screen.

I don't have a 240 volt receptacle to test if the Amproad is the problem.

I don't have a separate electrical device with a 240v plug to test if the RVGuard is the problem.

To be fair the RVGuard says "For RV use only." But should it still work?

Any thoughts? Thanks.

One review from Amazon:

Updated, my mistake: Does NOT work on 110, as described! <<(not true)
By Sally in the United States on December 10, 20223rd portable charger ordered. Will likely return this one as well. Beware when described as 110 to 220. Likely not! ((It turns out that previous post, above, is incorrrect))
Update: Unlike many Chinese-based companies, AMPROAD has a North American affiliate and product support team. Based on my initial critical review, was counseled that there is a difference between the voltage adapter "dogbone" used for RVs, and that needed for a charger such as this. Having owned many RVs, I was using the wrong one. Service tech sent to me the correct adapter, got it practically overnight! With the correct adapter, unit works as advertised. Current amperage on 110 can go down to 10 amps. Changing rating to 5 stars, and I recommend strongly due to the excellent product support. If you get a cheaper item through Chinese dealer, good luck on getting customer support. see less

I don't know anything about the different adapters but it sounds like your issue. Would have been nice of them to have included a link to the correct adapter. Hope this gets you headed in the right direciton.

No, it won’t work. It puts the 120V hot wire to both 240V hot slots. Your EVSE sees net zero volts line-to-line.

I think the advertised 120/240v is a mistake on this unit: in other countries this might be correct, but this is really a 240v EVSE module, and cannot perform with only 120v, no matter what adapter you might use.
When you see a NEMA 14-50 MALE plug, you know that you have a 240v EVSE, unless it ALSO comes with a 120v MALE plug of it's own, like our FordMobileCharger. Trying to 'trick' or adapt the 240v EVSE into using 120v power won't work.

I don't think the problem is your Amproad, it's your adapter.

I have that EVSE and had a similar problem at RV Campsites charging it.

You have to buy an adapter specific to EV. For example this: https://a.co/d/fdEQyAd won't work. This one will: https://a.co/d/dkPS4wJ . (Guess how I know...🤣)

For your 5-15 issue, I bought this adapter (also specified for EV): https://a.co/d/3ietqwH and have had no issues. I've put probably around 400kWh into my truck with that combination of 5-15 adapter and cable.

Which EVSE are you using with this adapter and what is the charge rate?

^^^ This is your problem. You need the 5-15P to 14-50R adapter specifically for EVs not RVs. They are wired differently and cannot be exchanged.

Expected as in??? I’m curious if you can get more than 12A at 120V with the 120V applied to a 240V dongle.

RV Campsites I get 3.6kW on 30a 120v with the correct adapter.

With the correct 5-15 adapter I get around 1.4-1.8kW.

...this is from memory, it's been a couple months since we've been camping

Lots of discussion on this in previous threads. What EVSE are you using for 3.6KW on a 30a 120V TT30 connection? I have not been able to get more than 1.4kw on 120v circuits regardless of what they are rated for. I've tried across 3 adjustable EVSEs and they are all limited to 1.4kw by the truck.

With the Amproad listed above.

You may be correct... In all fairness, when I plugged in the correct 30a adapter I didn't check the rate just saw it had fired up and was charging. Once it starts charging I put a towel over the screen and move the main part of the unit under the truck, as I don't want the extra lights at night while camping or my kids messing with it. It took me multiple camping trips to find the right 30a adapter that worked, so I've only used the 30a adapter once.

I think you'll find it only charges at 1.4kw. It seems to be a limitation of the truck on 120V. Two of my EVSEs will let me adjust the current up to 16A but the truck won't pull any more than 1.4kw (12A). The J1772 Level 1 charging standard states 16A as the maximum for L1 (120v) but it seems Ford ignores this.
