When will 2025s be available? And does Ford normally run promotions to move older models?

It says which one it is on the top right of the window sticker. My Lariat has Active-X and they are fine. I know a lot of people actually prefer the Active-X over the real leather.
I'd like to know why. My memory of plastic seats (They called it vinyl.) from the 1970s is not good. This is a deal breaker for me. ActiveX is what Ford is calling plastic.
But IDK, maybe the quality of the plastic has improved over the past 50 years.

The majority of "leather" over the prior few decades has been a plastic product. Very rarely do you have actual animal hide leather in modern vehicles.

Vinyl is one plastic product but it is not the only one. It was a cheap material to use and the "pleather" used in cars is compromise of different materials that are still plastic.

Frankly I think this is good on Ford and from the sounds of it this active-x material is well liked.

ActiveX is not like the Vinyl seals from the 70's. It's a premium synthetic product that has many advantages over leather. Many car manufacturers including high end companies are starting to introduce similar seating materials.

ActiveX is a synthetic seating material that's designed to be easier to clean, more durable, and more resistant to staining than leather. ActiveX is also animal-free, while some people associate leather with animal cruelty. Here are some ways ActiveX compares to leather:

  • Cleaning: ActiveX can be cleaned with a standard leather cleaner, and it can withstand stronger cleaners for stains. Leather requires special care and cleaning to prevent cracking and tearing.

  • Durability: Ford claims ActiveX is tougher than leather.

  • Temperature resistance: ActiveX is said to resist temperature changes better than leather, so it shouldn't burn your legs in the summer or freeze them in the winter.

  • Appearance: ActiveX is designed to maintain a premium look and feel over time.

    • Cost: ActiveX is said to offer the look and feel of leather at a lower price.

If ActiveX (plastic) is superior to leather, then why would Ford put leather in their highest Platinum line for MY 2025 and ActiveX (plastic) seats in their lower trims?

We have a platinum 2017 Explorer. The platinum line usually gets the very high quality "Nirvana" leather. The Lariat leather is not the same grade, and I believe the ActiveX is a suitable and quality product after 10 days of ownership. I too had reservations, but ActiveX is what my unit came with and I'm over it now,

I may be wrong, but I believe FORD is going to stop offering leather altogether. The Platinum will go to a synthetic soon also.

I really wanted the active-x in my 24 Lariat. Unfortunately, the available ones didn’t have max tow and pro power. The leather is ok, but was not my preference.

Interesting. I wanted a Lariat with Max Tow and Pro Power, but there were very few in the entire state of California, and they all had other issues that made them unattractive. Plus I was set on the Color "Avalanche" so that really arrowed it down. I ended up with the color I wanted that was preconfigured by Ford from the Replenishment Program through my dealer, but for some reason Ford decided no Max Tow on any preconfigured Lariat and only put that package on the Flash models. I had to remind myself that life requires a series of compromises, so at least I got a Lariat in Avalanche. Oddly enough all the Lariats configured by Ford have the ActiveX seating.

Buyer opinion. Real "Leather" is considered a very premium feature and for those buying a Platinum trim that's what they are there for.

There's '23 XLT and Pro SR that pop up for under 40k. No adaptive cruise or heated steering wheel. I'm guessing with a typical daily drive of 180 mile round trip, SR is not a good choice in winter? It's Puget Sound so not too cold (mid 30s). We have a Transit van for longer/multi-day trips. Cheapest ERs seem to be $10-15k more.

What about the used EV tax credit?
Only if you can find a '22 for less than 25k. Rules are must be two model years old and under 25k and only one used credit per vehicle. I think it also has to be bought from an authorized dealer rather than an individual.

Been thinking about getting a cheap used EV to buy time when my wife's Ioniq 5 lease is up next summer and the only guys I've seen getting the used EV credit are on low spec ID4s rotting on dealer's used lots.

You can get 2021 Mach E Select for that much. Also 22 Ioniq 5 SE. We get into this comparison where we'd like feature X and Y and that bumps up the price, but in reality the car will probably replace our 20 year old Subaru that has none of the modern amenities (it did have heated seats at one point)...
