"People are reporting"...

I'd like to see Bob Smith post his rejection letter from the IRS, hiding his personal information.

Ford setup the dealership systems so that the printing of the report was PART OF THE SALES PROCESS. I gave my dealership the steps, which they then confirmed that their systems showed them.
The sad reality, as it stands now, is if the dealership did not report the VIN within 3 days you are hosed.

I didn't leave my dealership (in May 2023) until they completed and signed the report, but in 2023 they didn't have to report. This is going to be HUGE.

So this is what happened to us. The dealership was having issues registering with the IRS and finally got it done but over a month after we bought our truck. We got our truck 03/30/2024 and they finally got access to the website in May 2024. Turns out it was an IRS issue, or so the dealership said. They said they had a "Pending" message on the IRS website for their dealership registration. They submitted our information in May which was obviously after the 3 day limit.

I researched the EV Tax Credit, what the dealership HAD TO DO FOR ME TO GET IT and called 3 dealerships to ensure they were signed up with the IRS and could take the $7,500 off up front (Because I realized, if they take it off up front and they screw it up, it's on them. If I take it "off" my taxes and they screw it up, it's on me). Two of the three were signed up, the third dealership's response was "I'm not sure but I can find out." Stopped dealing with the third dealership (fortunately the other two were priced lower and I was able to work them against each other). By no means do I expect everyone to put in the leg work up front...but I was highly motivated to ensure I got the $7,500.

That's the strategy to follow. Too many people don't do research and expect everything to be the way it's supposed to be. That can get expensive. When I bought my 2023, they were clueless, having sold ONE before that, and with ZERO interest in selling any more. I led him by the nose to the part of their system, and he found the form and said "it will be filled out before you leave". Next day, form was filled out before I headed home (bought several states away).

This is what I posted in May last year.

"I purchased my new 2023 Lightning XLT on Jan. 4, 2024. I talked to several dealers in the Nashville area about the new tax rebate rules but none of them knew anything about it. Finally one dealer said they could give me the $7,500 rebate credit so I bought my 60k truck from them. I have asked them several times for the IRS form to no avail. They did give me a $7,500 so called rebate but I am sure it was just a price reduction to get the truck off their lot. I am able to buy Ford vehicles utilizing Ford Z Plan (below dealer cost) and used it to purchase this truck.
I just wonder how many 2024 purchase date Lightning/Mach E buyers actually have received the correct IRS paperwork?
Myself and my Lightning fully qualify for the tax rebate."

Now, the IRS has my VIN and I am supposedly eligible to take the $7,500 tax credit when I file my taxes.
The only way the IRS got my vehicle info was that the dealer entered it after the fact and without me actually digitally signing it and did it wrong in my favor :).

When I bought our 2024 Flash, when I was at the dealer's to pick it up, I made sure that the dealer had submitted the required information by watching the dealer submit the info and receive the confirmation, prior to handing the dealer a check and leaving with the vehicle. I was prepared to back out of the deal if this did not occur.

This is what we got. I called the IRS and they said it means the vin is not in the database.

Thanks for sharing, are the VIN digits entered correctly?

Note there are a few "illegal" characters that can be misconstrued, verify what you're inputting on this VIN check digit validation tool.

Even though I had the $7500 taken off at the time of sale back in April last year the dealership gave me a completed 15400. I also noticed that you still need to enter the purchase when doing your 2024 taxes as it then verifies you were eligible to receive the credit.

I was referring to no one just myself. I was sharing my experience when I was preparing my taxes.

Definitely still need to submit it on your tax returns, because if you don't qualify based upon income limits, you will owe money. That is one benefit for dealerships taking $7,500 off up front. They don't need to worry about your tax situation and if you take the credit and don't qualify, the dealership sold the truck based upon that assumption while you are stuck paying.
