Lesson learned for others. If your dealer does not do ”Point of Sale” tax credit for you, then just walk away. We should be rewarding dealers that are participating with the program.

Not worth the hassle or the long wait to see if dealership files paperwork correctly for you to get the tax credit.

Cash for Clunkers was 20 years ago. That excuse by dealership no longer holds any water.
But it makes a big difference in the sale of the vehicle. You are financing more. Why do that when the dealer should have given the credit.

Yes it is. There is no paperwork required from the dealer, if the dealer is not fronting the tax credit.
THEY HAVE A WEBSITE TO INCLUDE the $7,500 IN THE DEAL to provide you a better cost to finance. What part of that don’t you understand?

The dealer is required to submit a Time of Sale report to the IRS and provide a copy to the buyer. Does not matter if you are doing a Point of Sale credit or if you are waiting to claim on your tax return later.

Clearly 🙂 stated on IRS site.

Yes! And that provides the credit and lower cost instead of you filling it out and waiting for the tax credit.

Yeah, you can get the tax credit next year, but if the dealer did not file it those 3 days it will not be a part of financing. I’d personally rather have it a part of financing than getting the return next year on my own. The dealer in this situation messed it up and that affected the financing of the deal…that is not cool.
