Does anyone else feel betrayed by the government (specifically the Donald Trump administration)? The main reason I bought the EV was because we were given a deadline that a lot of vehicles will be changing over to electric and that more and more EV Chargers will be installed throughout the US. Now this administration has taken over and decimated the program that was suppose to fund the installation of chargers. I just feel like a complete dumbass for buying this truck knowing that everything will remain limited on travel unless you pass by a progressive city with chargers.
I could be wrong but I donā€™t think the previous administration even got to a significant amount installed.

but itā€™s really not a problem was just a flashy headline that really didnā€™t matter. Thereā€™s so much investment money building out the grid privately - thereā€™s no need for the government.

I think EA is doubling its chargers in another year ? You have gas stations like Buckys ect installing them. Now ther everyone charges $.35-$.45, everyone wants a piece of the profits.

speaking of dumbassā€™ - I was one of first that got and and paid full price and 6.5% - but I love trying out new things and donā€™t regret it - I just purchased my 2nd lightning. This time I got a really, really good deal.
Once you do a little research and get used to it , you will realize there are chargers everywhere and if you still are a bit timid -get a Tesla adapter and use their network.

Betrayed? No.

Disappointed that our government is bipolar? Yes. The people of this country should be able to count upon the government as an entity, not as a tool for the whims of a person. If your goal is " its my way now" you do not uphold the integrity of the government.

Sadly it has become "me" and "now", not "we" and "then".

And that's without going into foreign relations.

We wonder why we are receding as a country but quite simply it is due to all of those that contribute to this lack of consistency.

There was no mandate...

No, don't feel betrayed. Fully expected Clownshow 47 to be more action packed than clownshow 45, mostly because they realize how the establishment didn't react appropriately during clownshow 45, and they know what they can get away with. This will culminate in Supreme Court showdowns.
Bro I will take the clown show all day long after 4 yrs of sleepy joe. MERICA!!! šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

When I bought my F150 Lightning in 2023, Tesla Supercharger access wasn't even on the radar.

I can tell you as someone who has done over 75k miles of EV roadtripping that the charging situation has improved dramatically over the past 3+ years. In this time, Electrify America stepped up their game dramatically, EVGo is no longer a joke, and charging location growth has been dramatic. Truth be told, it's no longer a special YouTube-worthy event to roadtrip in an EV.

On common routes of mine across multiple states there's now 3-4x as many chargers as their used to be. That growth came from private industry taking action... not NEVI funding.

Sure, DC Fast Charging has gotten significantly more expensive than it used to be, but it's also much more reliable.

Not betrayed, only targeted. That's ok. Nothing stops progress, it can only be slowed. Tesla has a very painful eventuality ahead which will benefit the industry the likes of which has never been seen (to quote a dying man I know).

Don't feel betrayed at all and can see the possibility of Tesla getting large amounts of NEVI under new "rules" which would actual benefit EV drivers.

I believe America's lack of transition to EV (and China's commitment to EV's) is more a national security threat. What do major wars need? Gas/oil...what happens when gas goes to $6...$7...$8 a gallon during a major war? If you're committed to EV's nothing...if your economy and personal transportation is....civil population starts to get upset...which is why I am still confounded that it is such a political football.

I bought an EV because I wanted an EV and that works for our family. What the government does or doesnā€™t do seldom factors into my decisions. I never have faith in the government executing on promises made by politicians. As such I donā€™t make large life or financial decisions based on that.

TLDR: I manage personal expectations based on past experience and Iā€™m not let down.

American auto knows that they must transition to EV's ASAP in order to even have a remote chance at surviving and will continue moving forward with their plans. No matter how big Trump thinks his head is, he will not be able to stop the WORLD from transitioning to EV's. Unfortunately, the US is one of the only countries that chose to politicize EV's so there will be flip flops and stunted growth. Ultimately this will be the cause the US auto industry's demise but EV's will still prevail and infrastructure will continue to grow and accelerate as the tipping point increases. The only change is that the US will be forced to open up the market to foreign EV brands since they will have destroyed their own from dumb politics preventing them to scale and compete globally.

In other words, don't feel betrayed. You made the right choice and things will only continue to improve from here on out (infrastructure wise), even if the current administration tries to stunt it.

I bought an EV so all the ICE-holes will have more fuel to run their vehiclesā€¦.šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚

The transition is well underway whether people like it or not this is just a speed bump not a sinkhole! There are still some charging deserts, but for the most part, you can go anywhere in this country and bordering countries as well. I mean, there are members of this forum in Alaska and Hawaii.

One of the consequences of FDRā€™s New Deal was the construction of the massive hydroelectric Grand Coulee Dam, then more than 2 dozen mainstream hydroelectric dams and reservoirs followed over 3 decades. Two Canadian reservoirs were funded by the USA to hold back Canadian Rocky water for timed distribution into the Columbia River mainstream flow such that the downhill stair stepping is timed & planned to create power. Initial use was aluminum smelters and the massive Columbia Basin ag irrigation project. Dams are owned & maintained by fed agencies-authorities and county-city utility districts. Our Lightning & Mach E are charged by The Bonneville Power Administration juice sold to our local Public Utility District. The excellent West Coast Grid moves energy efficiently in the Western US and today that includes public and private wind solar, coal, natural gas, nuke (one left I recall). Grand Coulee and many others are operated by the US Bureau of Reclamation. US Army Corps of Engineers operates 9 of 10 main stem dams, BC Hydro operates those in Canada, USBR operates a bunch and cities occasionally own dams as does the private sector on the Snake River.

The real gem is the West Coast Electrical Interconnection Grid that efficiently distributes power amongst-between 11 states and two Canadian provinces. The price of getting timed melt water from Canada? Billions of $$ per year & negotiated by a US-Canada treaty. Power demand today? Data Centers. Most aluminum smelters are long gone as the price of electricity rose. At one point Grand Coulee electricity was estimated to produce 1/3 of the airplane aluminum for WW2. (Iā€™m pretty proud of that-as my grandfather ran the Westinghouse crew that built the windings, installed, and wired the generators in the Grand Coulee No. 1 powerhouse).

The West Coast grid management is considered one of the best in North America though complex and run by a host of public agencies and private corporations to effectively move electricity through long power line networks and particularly during times of stress/storms/heat/drought.

BEVs in the West benefit by the grid. Itā€™ll be interesting to see how BEV growth evolves and the grid ā€œadaptsā€œ.

ICE power distribution looks positively quaint by comparison.

I'm sorry you were gullible and bought a $80,000 truck because a bunch of teenaged political activists said you should.
Didnā€™t spend $80,000 on the truck even though thatā€™s what it MSRPs for. Itā€™s just disheartening that Biden signed a bill granting over 5 billion dollars to funnel into building ev chargers around America and now itā€™s on hold. I figure the closer we got to the mandate in which I knew was never logically achievable that there would be a lot more infrastructure. Thatā€™s all.

I hear you. And now we've got "drill drill drill" which was expected, but not attempting to halt using the funds that were already allotted and then next will be him threatening states that don't do so.
