Swap 23 Lariat ER for 24 Platinum am I crazy?

Update:
Deal was actually completed today.

While I was at another Ford dealership getting prices on my old truck the Sales manager from the first called me. We agreed on a price to buy my 2023 and then I drove to that store and signed the paperwork to lock in the deal. After signing I took my old truck back home tonight so I could remove tonneau cover, the console safe and some other things from the truck. I go back tomorrow to swap out the trucks.

This deal makes it the 70th new vehicle I've purchased since 1973. 22 in just in the last 10 years. 13 of those 22 have been Ford trucks, 150's 350's and 450's

That sounds like me in 30 more years. I too have had 250/350/450 /raptors ect. My wife has had her fair share as well

Love not having to go to gas stations.

We do a 125 mile one way trip to our remote cabin several times a month. We travel with 2 Mini Golden Doodles and a caged Parrot in the back seat. Plus we have a powered cooler in the Fronk set to -2dF for frozen foods and another in the truck bed under the tonneau cover set to 34 dF as a refrigerator when going between the house and the cabin. The Lightning has supplied emergency backup power to the cabin when electricity goes out.

So, what did they pay you for your truck?

The cut a check to us for yesterday's KBB trade in Price. They started $4,000 below yesterday's Trade in price. Both Carvana and CarMax were also $3k-$k below yesterday's trade in price. Today, 3/1/25, I just checked KBB and with the new month starting today the KBB value dropped $1,000 overnight. I think that EV politics are hurting used values badly.

You would gain heat pump but lose the dual 80 amp level 2 charging capability. Just one thing besides as you said lose the 3 yrs of BC.

All valid points. I was aware of all theses points, But
1- I have never charged at 80 amps. I always charge at 48 amps with my Tesla Wall Connectors.
2- In Florida heat pump or not doesn’t mean anything. Up North it does
3- Blue Cruise is almost worthless for us since we rarely go on interstates that are BC mapped. If I need to do a long road trip I can always pay the one month fee. Even though 3 yr BC is on our window sticker for $2,100, Ford reinvoiced the truck without BC.

What the little I gained is
1- Massaging seats
2- 1-1/2 years of additional warranty compared to remaining on my 2024
3- Walk away lock (I know ford said they would add this on 22&23s)
4- Slightly cosmetically nicer interior
5- Marginally worth more as a used 24 Platinum vs an 22 Lariot with 10,000 more miles in 3 years
6- at 78 years old I don’t know how much longer I will be able to enjoy and drive. I intend to enjoy it while I can.

i already gave up enjoying my motorcycles and flying my plane.

Walk away lock was already added in software. My 23 has it. I just had to turn it on with forscan. I think that’s all I’m missing on my 23 is the messaging seats. My lariat has the power running boards and every other option. I’d like to have those seats as I do cross country trips but just could not find the color combo or price I liked. The truck I got was a left over special order 23. Got about $25k off so I was happy with that. lol.

This is THE reason to buy a Platinum. My wife won't even consider a car without massaging seats after using them in my truck. If I'm being honest, I feel the same.

I got the same color combo. Do you feel a difference In steering / acceleration from your 23 lariat to 24 platinum ? My steering is stiffer and feel the throttle is a bit “heavier” out the gate if that makes sense.

What you describe is the same things I feel with the limited driving I’ve done. The 23 Lariat had very light steering and quick center recovery after turning. I remember my first test drive when I made a U-turn and let the wheel go to recenter.

The throttle response curve on the 23 made the pedal very touchy. Especially if I needed to get out of the way and immediately applied 1/2 throttle, it would snap the heads of passengers in the truck. The new one seems like it’s more like an ICE car.

I’ve only got 200 miles with it so limited experience so far.

That my friend would be a king ranch which I would have bought at any point. I really wish every year when the new year comes out they added it to the lightning. I’ve had 4 because of the two tone paint and interior.its just a unique and nice package.

However the seats in the platinum are more of a light grey in my opinion so it hides dirt /wear better then white

Agree. That’s exactly what I’m experiencing. once I’m moving at any speed the instant propulsion kicks in like usual

The King Ranch is a nice truck but I've never seen any ranchers driving them; it's a pavement princess. So is the Platinum but it's an authentic pavement princess.
