Well I took it one step further and installed the MagSafe charger in the little cubby. Turned out good. Now I just throw my phone up there and it charges

Was thinking about something like this? Wireless charging and having a battery backup in case you need to take it on the go.

TL;DR: The charger in this tray is terrible.

I purchased one of those as well... ground down the sides so that I could fit both this tray and the OEM tray... and I was fine with it at first.

But after having it for a few months, the charger in it is horrible. I have an iPhone X which does "fast wireless charging," but this tray DEFINITELY doesn't provide the power needed to do that. In fact, it is the absolute SLOWEST charger that I've ever had. I'm going to be getting rid of it and doing something like the OP with a quality charging pad in the front center console.

The built in charger is garbage. It will not stay connected to the wireless charging pad whether case on or off. I have an iphone12Pro and it's a pain in the ass. I have switched to a magsafe charger but before that, if you want something close, this works great. Never had an issue.

I like the sides on that one from Amazon. It looks like it would really hold the phone in place. But, do you know if it would fit easily in that forward compartment in the center console?

If you haven't used magsafe yet just know it's not a light magnet hold. If you are planning on leaving the charger in the car you will not be able to lift the phone off it without picking them up and pulling with some effort. Not a lot of effort but the magnet won't allow you to lift the phone without also lifting the charger.

I hope that makes sense.

Its a good one for sure. No adjusting. But I don't have it any more. Should be measurements on the link. It fit in my 2019 Ranger tray no prob.

If you are planning on leaving the charger in the car you will not be able to lift the phone off it without picking them up and pulling with some effort. Not a lot of effort but the magnet won't allow you to lift the phone without also lifting the charger.

I added a dedicated USB A and C socket to the back of the Center console storage under the arm rest. Ran the Magsafe cable back to that. This way I get the full 15 watts Magsafe Charging. This is the charging socket I used. Connected it using fuse taps in the panel at the passenger side. It does and thank you for the heads up. Was also worried about keeping a battery plugged in that long in the truck.

Posted this in another thread, but I took the dove tail slots for the weird phone holder slots in the center console and 3d printed a holder to put a magsafe charger there. Don't have any pictures right now of the current one, I prototyped in this clear one. Ended up changing the cable to come out the side, cleaned up the cable, and made it black, but general idea below:

I've been meaning to do this since I picked up my F-150. I think its nonsense how some Lariats can top $75,000, and XLTs and XL can easily crest $50,000 and somehow we are blocked out of having the wireless charging option that is afforded to the King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trims.

Well, friends, I've found a pretty good, if not better, alternative for us lowly Lariat lovers who want a wireless phone charging option for their trucks.

Here is what I did to combat Ford's cost cutting:

I have used Anker phone related products in the past, and have had pretty good luck with them. Way back in October when I was in the process of placing my order, I was considering buying one of their wireless charging pads for the truck. since that time, it looks like Anker has released a smaller, more powerful model.

I picked up the Anker PowerWave Base Pad. This item seems extremely well thought out especially for purposes of being used in the F-150s. The top and bottom surfaces have a rubber texture to better grip onto the phone as well as the surface it is placed on.

The device also has vents along the sides on the bottom to help with cooling, and mitigate overheating.

Here is a quick look at what comes in the box:

The Anker PowerWave is also able to charge through normal phone cases up to five millimeters thick.

I placed the PowerWave in the storage cubby directly underneath the Productivity Screen and climate controls. I also purchased a six inch USB to Micro USB cable to plug into the truck's USB port to run power to the PowerWave. I elected to get a ninety degree angle cable so it sits more flush with the device and saves as much of the cubby space as possible.

Here are a few pictures of it installed in the truck:

Ok - issue with this.

I just got a new iPhone 13 Pro with an Apple leather case. The new case has a bigger lip around the camera. It lifts the phone just enough that it the rubber bits on this charger don't touch the case enough to hold it.

When I turn or accelerate my phone just slides off.

Ahh, good to know. I have an iPhone 11 Pro with a rubber-esque type case. It works fine for now.

I may be upgrading to the iPhone 13 Pro soon. I’ll have to see if it works with it or not.
