I hear ya, but they make money by taking in more than they have to pay out for mechanical work. So someone is making money and it’s not you. I understand some people get these because they don’t want to save for a possible big cost, but the percentages are always on their side.
I can't disagree with this either but I'll pay for the peace of mind. Replacing just one headlight* under warranty would justify it.

*If you have added the optional headlight coverage. They have to make money, right?

For those in CA/FL. You can use the cheaper warranty sites still. You just have to use another state for your address (billing can be FL/CA still). For example, I used my in-laws home in another state and live in one of these so called not allowed states. Did the same in 2017 with my last truck.

The registration/purchase info doesn't matter, it's literally for the sale to comply with laws is all. So if you have a family member in an allowed state, use their address. Worst case the receipt gets mailed to them only :p

Another fun fact, if you cancel and need a refund, some state laws say they can't charge a fee etc. and the state the refund is mailed to law is followed. So these same states that make it hard to get one allow you to get more at cancelation if you sell hah.

2023 Lightnings - SR XLT, ER XLT, ER Lariat - 2024
Our Lariat is at dealership now for pre-expiry inspection - so far new 12v battery, sensor wiring harness, both running boards (led lights) and driver mirror (led courtesy light), add in tailgate lightbar from early days and see a pattern?

Unfort at 4,000 miles a month... looking at the max miles /5 year extension just for warranty on leds...

Motors, or as Ford refers to them as eDrive systems, are covered along with the battery for 8yr/100k miles.
Just as an FYI: the front motor on my former Mach E went BLOOOEY at 47 thousand miles and about 17 months of ownership.

Ford dealer replaced the front motor (shipping + repair) in five working days, and at a warrantied cost (billed to Ford Motor Co - I saw the warranty invoice) at just over 5,000 $$$, in Fall of 2023.

However (!!) Ford said that the warranty length for the replaced motor was now 12 months, from the date of replacement. This adjusted 12 month warranty length likely applies for other major replaced assemblies were they to happen under the original warranty period, afaik.

As it happened, the replaced front motor started to slowly give signs of impending failure by the following June, at about 72,000 miles. After diagnostics, the dealership again replaced the front motor, under the 12 month warranty, at 75,001 miles.

Yes I drove that Mach E like I stole it, all over the USA... might have had something to do with the front motor repeat failures

But the point of the story for this discussion thread is: the repeated failure of that Borg Warner front motor assembly is why I traded in my Mach E while it was being repaired for the 2d time, for the Lightning. I really didn't want to deal with a 3d motor failure as the car aged and added miles.

The failures in both motors were of the internal seals between the motors' rotating and stationary parts... metal shavings in the fluid, and all that.

I have had many new cars and never bought or needed the extended warranty and will not buy one now. At this point I am playing with house money.

I to bought 10 years, 100k from Granger. I probably only needed 75k but I wanted to have extra miles on there in case I sell the truck in a few years. I too am recently retired and I wanted the peace of mind to not have to worry about anything on this truck. I've owned the ERL since May 2022 and I love it (as does my red Lab!)

You got me thinking and reviewing my history. I am midway thru retirement, have purchased 26 vehicles since 1968, but only 4 were new, the first and the last.

The local mechanic is my friend and is on my speed dial, but he will be no help on the Lightning. I will be buying my first warranty next year because of all the complexity of a new model, even as "simple" as a Pro, from Ford. Variable frequency inverters, dash screens, LEDs, so many digital modules, ...

I will wait to buy as late as possible, as you never know what life will throw at you.

Does anyone sell reliable extended warranty coverage of the battery? None of Ford's plans cover it.

I was always curious about extending the warranty while you are already in an extended warranty.

What I mean is - extended the warranty to 5 years I believe. Now I'm thinking I'd like to have it go to 8. Do they let you "upgrade" the length mid term?

I'm going to get a 10/100 warranty for ~$2,500.

Will I save money? Odds are no. On my last truck I came out ahead. But I don't get warranties to save money. I get them so I don't give a s--t if something goes wrong.

On my last truck I pushed the button to open the sunroof and it made a loud pop and the glass went crooked. Module track broke, would have cost me $2,100. When it happened, instead of cursing and thinking of dollar signs, I just went "oh well."
Who are you getting the warranty through?
