I hadn't thought of that.. I do like 4A, I don't really know what Sync 4 looks like
Sync4 with the horizontal screen and hardware buttons is superior to Sync4A. I had it on my 2021 ICE Lariat and wish I could have kept it on my Lariat Lightning. I hate the 15" screen.

You're getting an upgrade and don't even know it.

I'm starting to lose track of the list in my head, but going from a MME to a lightning felt like coming out of beta. Lightning being 1.0 and way better in every way.

Good to know! Parking in some places may be an issue, but luckily, I'm not a city-dweller so small, parallel parking spots shouldn't really be a problem that often (and still have my wife's car). I don't park in a garage at home now, so that's fine.. and after I found 2 small dings in the passenger door of my MME the week I got it, I literally park all the way in the back of the lot at work away from everyone. I've gotten into that habit most places I go now. Walking is healthy. :)
Interesting about the walk-away feature. I use PAAK often so don't have my keys on me and let it lock.. I guess I'll need to adjust and maybe go back to the FOB. Locking/unlocking with the phone isn't as simple.
The self parking feature is pretty darn amazing. And still no need for the fob in my book. The touch to lock on the outer handles or pressing the bottom two buttons of the key pad on the driver door work really well, but the key is making sure to remember to use them.

I'm pretty sure I'll be switching from an Mach-E Premium SR to a Lightning in January once the federal rebate becomes available at point of purchase. I have a few questions that'll help when I need to place my order in November (most likely).

For those who have or had a Mach-E, is there anything you’ve missed with moving to the Lightning? (I know parking will not be as easy, but I typically park away from people anyway so for the most part I'll be OK with that).

I’m looking at the XLT trim as I really want to go back to cloth. The base 311A package without any other options will keep me under the $55k threshold to be eligible for an additional $1500 rebate in my state. Not a requirement, but would be nice to have...

In order to keep it under that price point, I'd have to skip on the spray-in bed liner. My dealership "has a place" locally that does it and they have a lifetime guarantee on it - has anyone gone the 3rd party route on the spray-in bed liner? How does a spray in compare to a drop-in liner?

Does not having a bed cover affect range much? I know that used to be a thing with the ICE pickup.. The only thing I'll be transporting regularly in the bed is a mountain bike, so most of the time I wouldn't want a cover because I'd be in and out of there almost daily. Is it worth getting one for longer trips or does it not make much of a difference?

Do the 18” vs 20” wheels make a noticeable difference on range or comfort? Aside from the 20s looking a bit nicer (IMO) any functional or ride quality benefit of 20 over 18? I'm most likely going 18's just because I can't justify the 312A package. (I have Copilot on my MME and rarely use the features. I'm fine with standard cruise control).

Wireless phone charging isn't an option on the XLTs.. is it something easily added afterwards (for a factory look?)

How’s the audio on the XLT? I have the B&O system in my MME and it sounds good - not perfect. I’m not an audiophile, but I don’t want to go back to anything bad either.

I think that's it for now - thanks all! :)
Another forum member with a question.
I am the owner of a MME Premium EX 2021 Job1, and a Lightning Lariat 2022.
I couldn't be happier with both of them.
The Lightning is my work truck, hauling truck, camping/trails/have fun truck.
It is my every day vehicle. The MME is also a runner for the family. I have fun with both vehicles.
Your XLT trim has 18in wheels. I will stick with them. Ford has done the testing on those size wheels. How you accessorise your Lightning to fit your budget is up to you. Make sure you get at least the mobile charger with your truck, unless you have one from your Mach E and planning to keep it. Another thing to think about is the size of the battery. Splurge for the larger pack.
I had the factory spray the bed. My preference. By the way, the Lightning is 14 months old now. Everything is holding up beyond my expectations. You will find that the Lightning is quicker than the Mach E. It rides better than any F-150 Ford has built. Remember the old Lightning? This one, although a different beast, is a lot quicker, rides better and a lot more comfortable.
On the option of cruise control.....do not cheapen out. Get the adaptive cruise with the Blue Cruise option, even if you don't have to pay for renewal fee two years later. The sound system is very good. Not many know anything about B&O, unless you are an Audiophile.
B&O have been around and they know and produce excellent audio devices.
You going to get hooked. Once you learn your truck then you can formulate an opinion about your MME.
Don't get swayed about what is offered by the other manufacturers. I am not saying that the Rivian is not the truck for you, but you would not forum members to help you with the Lightning choice.
To be honest, I have a reservation for a Cybertruck. I am still waiting. Ford beat Tesla on both my choices of EVs.
Anyways, I am partial to Mustangs, since I have owned many of them since my first one from 1984.
So, go ahead, massage your numbers, count your$$$, and put your order in.

I can only ever get the front handles to work when trying to lock or grip to unlock. Are the back ones also supposed to work? They have the buttons but I can never get them to work.

Yes, they are supposed to work. They work fine on mine with both the FOB and PAAK.

Thanks, I'll have the dealer check them out when I (eventually) drop it off to have the taillight recall done.

Thanks for the feedback.. As for the battery, while I would love the bigger one it just doesn't make financial sense to do it. it's a $12K option that I can't justify. My daily commute is about 50 miles round trip, all backroads and side streets.. I'm a charge to 100% every night and I come home with about 80% charge at the end of the day. Even with the Lightning penalty, I'll still be at least 70%. I don't have any road trips where I'd need to take the EV - we usually use my wifes SUV for anything extended. My son goes to college about 315 miles away from home, if I took the Lightning whichever battery I had; I'd still have to stop once along the way. (There's a charging point almost exactly halfway, so big or small, I'd have to hit that to charge).

And thanks for the pics showing Carbonized Gray and Antimatter Blue... those were the 2 colors I've been debating. Leaning towards CG.

On the topic of Wireless Phone charging - not a bad skip. The Lighting has it tucked up under the dash and phone GPS functions are weak at best in that location. I get goofy readings regularly on my old iPhone 11 and the same on my current iPhone 14. Installing a wireless charge pad up on top of the dash behind the screen would work better IMHO.

I agree on the wireless phone charger, it's trash. It is in a bad spot and I find it awkward to fit my hand and phone down in there.

If you are an iPhone user, I found this solution that I am very happy with. MagSafe suction mount right underneath the brake controller. Unfortunately there is a cord to the MagSafe puck but is the perfect spot to have the phone.

Once in a while the suction mount does need to be reapplied, but it has not bothered me too much.

(I know parking will not be as easy, but I typically park away from people anyway so for the most part I'll be OK with that).
- this is a large supercrew truck... parking in a 'compact EV' spot for charging, which we unfortunately still see quite often, is not for the faint-of-heart. Maybe the industry will understand this as they build more, but, right now, you just have to deal with it. When I can, I take up four spaces at large lots away from most other cars, whether others like it or not. Having the 360 cameras makes it a LOT easier to lower your concerns about tight corners - I use it often. My wife is at FSU in downtown Tallahassee - believe you me, all of these 'student' parking spaces are NOT designed for large vehicle, not to mention the very 'tight' entries and exits to many parking lots, and the huge number of 'walker' students, and those 'biking', 'e-biking', 'e-scootering', and 'e-anything' to classes!

I’m looking at the XLT trim as I really want to go back to cloth.
- wow, I would have NEVER wanted cloth - my PRO has the 'faux' Leather, although it is 'Vinyl', though you'd never know it. Seat covers don't hurt the future look of these over the long-term.

How does a spray in compare to a drop-in liner?
- don't know, and I would never go that route - my full BEDRUG cloth/carpet bedliner is TERRIFIC! (and I can always remove it if I were to need to. It makes for a much more comfortable 'bed' when tent camping in the bed, too!)

Does not having a bed cover affect range much?
- no

Do the 18” vs 20” wheels make a noticeable difference on range or comfort?
- no

Wireless phone charging isn't an option on the XLTs.. is it something easily added afterwards (for a factory look?)
- I simply added a walmart 'usb-c' wireless charger stand that keeps my phone facing UP and toward me while driving, mounted right behind the gear shifter on the console.

How’s the audio on the XLT?
- fine, but I added an 'underseat' bass thumper, which I modified with a 12v plug to simply get power from the 12v outlet behind the console.
I like my bass LOUD and where I can FEEL it, although I'll admit that the door speakers already do a good job of that, as well.

Great point... Hadn't thought about the spots when I need to charge. I'm typically first one in at my office so get my choice of charging spots, so at least there I'll be OK.. With the charging door where it us, I won't be backing into those spots though - it barely reaches on my MME when I back it in.

I’m looking at the XLT trim as I really want to go back to cloth.

I'm an odd one, I know... There's a comfort to cloth that leather just doesn't have. I really only chose leather on previous cars because of the heated seats. Being able to have that with cloth makes it a no-brainer for me.

Hadn't heard of this, just looked it up. It's definitely a consideration and within the same ballpark for pricing.

Thinking thats the way to go. I'll figure something out with a Magsafe mount and won't miss the built-in wireless at all.

Good to know. Bass like that is great, but just knowing the built-in system is good, I'll be fine with that.

Thanks for the feedback!

ProPower 9.6kW and 360 cameras where my must haves. I would have added power steps had I waited and ordered. It's a $250 add and they cost $1000'ish aftermarket.
I got the power steps on my build (9/20/23) awaiting shipping. I thought: Hey, never had it, I'll give it a try. Hopefully my wife is wrong, and they won't pop-out every time I walk by the truck with my phone like the lights on my MME.

If they do the trade-in will be hard to figure out: Truck or Wife. It's a close one.

2011 study from the Department of Energy. The department found driving with a tonneau cover improved 3.6% fuel efficiency. (of course, before EV trucks)

I always get a tonneau cover for my trucks if only for security.

3.6% seems to be a lot of ion savings.
