I've had ABRP on my phone for over a year and I use it occasionally to route out my trips. After not using it for 5 months or so I go back in to plan a trip this winter. Next time I went into my truck ABRP was the map of choice on CarPlay. No problem, select Apple Maps and be on my way. Next time start my truck and ABRP is there again, I didn't use ABRP between the first and second time I was in the truck. Made sure there are no apps running on my phone, re-select Apple Maps. Go into my music player change the playlist and as soon I went back a screen the icon changed back to ABRP. Anyone else seeing this, I've restarted my phone, restarted Sync, ABRP is not running on my phone. Other than removing ABRP from CarPlay how can I stop ABRP from wanting to take over as my map of choice?

My truck is doing that too, I hate ABRP, I plan to delete it from my phone so it can't do this in the future, I just want Waze as the default, and would delete all the other Navigation apps. I even signed up for ABRP membership and it didnt improve..

I had this happen too. I just removed it from the available CarPlay apps and it now defaults back to Waze (what I use).

You can do this on your phone by going to Settings>General>Carplay and select your vehicle.

Damn, learn something new every day, just fixed it, removed both ABRP and Google Maps and cancelled ABRP subscription.

Ya, that's what I've done. But this is just wrong. I wonder if this a bug in ABRP or CarPlay?

I feel like the software companies are always battling for your screen space and they are constantly tweaking their apps to disrupt others and take the center stage on your screen. You see it with the browser wars, with Google, Bing etc, constantly trying to own your screen. I would suspect ABRP did an App update and it pushed the others off the screen or Ford did something on an update the pushed it onto the screen. At least I can pick my NAV with the Ford, Tesla locked you into their very stable OS platform, but then you missed out on picking your own apps. I was underwhelmed with ABRP and gave it a bullet.

Another negative with Ford is they sold my name to every freaking vendor in the world, my phone is constantly buzzing with XM calling me, aftermarket warranties, etc... pisses me off. We have a rule in our house, if you come knocking or calling we will never use your service. If I wanted to listen to 1940's AM radio audio quality over satellite, I would have already called you. I'll stick with my high audio quality Spotify thank you and before someone says, but the sports, I don't listen to or watch sports ball anything.

Yep, had to do the same thing. The ABRP hijacking was causing me to go crazy.

As I understand it, CarPlay defaults to the most recently used mapping app. Which sounds good on the surface. But whether it's a "bug" or not, I guess something ABRP is doing in the background counts as "running" so it then gets marked as the most recent app.

I think Apple will have to tweak their algorithm to allow full manual control (ideally) of the default app, rather than trying and failing to be smart about it, or at least change their definition of "running" to be *only* user initiated actions. Then when apps do something accidentally on purpose in the background it doesn't flag them as the new default app.

In another thread someone suggested setting up an automation on the phone to open the desired mapping app whenever CarPlay is connected. That should fix it though I haven't tried myself.
