Hey all,

I bought a lightning a few weeks ago, first truck and have been loving it so far!

That said, been having issues with bluecruse not activating. Initially Ford support suspected it was related to tsb 23-2122 as the maps date was June of this year. I took it in to get serviced and they were able to get everything updated, yet bluecruse continues not to engage. Note: I have verified adaptive cruse control is enabled with hands free option on, as well as driving on an approved highway. No errors come up when enabling cruse control with lane assist, it just never goes from hand-required to hands-free.
The dealer mentioned they suspect DTC U2404:0A to be the cause, which they stated Ford will apply some "software on the fly once they refine it".

Anyway since then, I have been looking at the code via FORScan and can confirm there is an error in the GWM:
Code: U2404 - Ethernet Failure With Image Processing Module 'A' (IPMA)
Additional Fault Symptom ( :0A ):
- General Electrical Failures - 2
I did run the self test on the IPMA which reported no errors.

I wanted to see if anyone has any theories. At this point I'm just really curious what it could be. I've tried to reseat the connections from the IPMA to the GWM with no luck. I would have also expected an ethernet failure with the IPMA would have more noticeable issues like lane centering or adaptive curse to not operate, but those have all been fine.

Anyone have any thoughts? Does it seem reasonable that this is something Ford can fix over the air?

Software seems to be all up to date. Tried to reset the IPMS and GWM and cleared the codes. The error did not come back immediately, but did come back after driving. Does kinda seem like a bad connection, but thats just my uneducated guess.

If anyone knows, the black box under the driver side is the ipms? I know there are 3 ports that are part of the IPMS, but is the GWM another module else where?

One thing I just noticed.
I was going through FORScan to save all the configurations for the modules. I was able to load and save all the modules as built format, except for the IPMA. It resulted in a "Service procedure has been interrupted" before it could read any blocks. FORScan does say the adapter is not recommended for the car, which could be the issue, but it is also suspicious that the module that is giving me issues can't be read.

That said, I was able to read the non as build format configuration for the IPMA, so not too sure what differs there.

Using Amazon.com: OBDMONSTER ELM327 FORScan OBD2 USB Adapter for Windows, ELMconfig Scanner with MS CAN/HS CAN Switch for F150 F250 Car and Light Truck Check Engine Light, Diagnosis on Windows with V1.5 Chip : Automotive for reference

Edit: Yep, the IPMA configuration issue was the OBD2 device, I got a Vgate reader and not having that issue

Hi there! I can look into your Lightning's concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Lightning's VIN?

Well a month has passed and two visits to the shop and still no fix in sight. Wondering if I should pressure the service department to attempt to replace the IPMA module

Well I fixed it!
Spent the $30 or so for the service manual and started digging into it myself which turned out to the best $30 I have spent. Not only did I see that the dealer knew about this issue days before they sold it to me, I also was able to use the walkthrough to diagnose the DTC.

Turns out someone did not plug in the ethernet cord into IPMA unit 😐
I originally missed it because it was tucked behind another panel that I had not removed in the past.
Quite upset that after two visits to the service center, they did not follow the procedure to diagnose the ethernet failure...

But anyway super stoked that I managed to fix it! Will have to see if Ford will extend the trial because of this.

Wow - that is another bizarre dealership story - too many of those.

This forum has become the breeding ground for a new generation of shade tree auto mechanics ... EV Generation that is!

Well done! Your story doesn't give me warm feelings about dealerships but at least it's fixed.

Yikes, wonder if it's just more complex systems leading to less understanding, or maybe that the 2023 lightnings have been sitting for so long sales are willing to do anything to move the inventory.

I was joking to friends that I may have to mention to my manager that another career is looking promising.

I think it's more simple than that. A lot of people just aren't very good at their jobs.

Sad, but true. And doesn’t seem to be any consequences anymore. 🙁
