My 13 Explorer has a push to open, push to latch door that has been actuated many more times than both of my Ford BEVs combined (so far) and it has never failed to either open or close & latch.

Honestly, after about a month or so with my Mach-E and a week with the Lightning, I rarely (but not never) have an issue. In addition to enough pressure, pressing directly over the latch mechanism is key.
Sounds good, I'll give that a try.

After successfully making vehicles with fuel filler doors for decades, it’s hard to imagine how Ford mucked this up…..but they did.
I see plenty of vehicles driving around missing the fuel filler door

As have I. I’ve not paid any attention to the make of car, though.

I always presumed it was caused by a case of headupitis.

Yes

And now watch. Next week my door will pop clean off for me trying to be smart
broke it today! Closed in haste after 2nd EA station wouldn’t charge in 2 days and now it’s off. Looks like the plastic tab that sticks out the door part snapped

Pretty frustrating that’s it’s stuck sprung open. Luckily a staples was at the location and I was able to buy some tape to tape it shut for the ride back

Yeah that is frustrating. Feel for ya. Brand new vehicles shouldn't have this issue. Ford missed the mark on this one. They should look at the Tesla charging door- its self closing, sensored, locks, and never just opens on its own.
