I agree, there needs to be a fix for the Charge Port door. I can never get it to lock first try even in normal temps and no ice.
Right there with you; I thought it was just me being spoiled by powered charge doors.

I feel I am going to break it, especially in this cold. Never opens the first time, then I feel like I am pressing too hard. And I don't think I've ever closed it right on the first press.

Do you have some ideas that can help these fine folks?

Seems to be a widespread frustration of frozen charge doors. Could @BestEvMod design something to cover the charge port from rain and insulate inside from snow...without magnets?

Said design could serve multiple purposes; keeps moisture out when it raining/snowing and insulates the charge port while charging in cold weather.

I bet a bunch of other brand owners would be interested as well.

Last night I was thinking about my snow blower and the fact that we have not have much to plow so far, thankful for that!!!

I have a couple of products to help reduce ice packing on the blower assembly, good old fashioned pam vegetable cooking spray and silicone spray.

I have not sprayed anything on the door hinge or the pin lock yet, as I park in the garage and Friday's rain only left a modest residual on the frunk hood and tonneau cover which are frozen solid now, not sure what kind of a mess it will make on the painted finish around the charge port door, I wonder if it would have any long term harm to the finish, at worst a major detailing task once spring melt has begun.

We have outlets. For those with frozen doors, etc... plug in a hair dryer

I too dislike the flimsy, cheap feel of the charge port door. However, I have found a way to open/close it on the first try about 95% of the time. The secret is to only press on the aft end of the black plastic strip. There seems to be a sweet spot that corresponds with the plastic strip that allows the latch to function properly. Play around with this and let me know if this works for your truck or if mine is just some kind of idiot savant.

Yes, I’ve been thinking about this….something that could latch to the fender at the gap with the frunk. I saw one online the other day that used suctopn cups, but I’m not sold on that method of attachment to the fender…..

we been thinking something like this for long now, but couldnt come up with a good solution. I know some people use some type of soft magnet method, we also going to have that version, But that one only works for rain.

The Lightning has an aluminum body so magnets won’t work

yeah, and more and more EV has an aluminum body these days. we shall definitely come up with some good universal fit solution. we wanted to make this product for long, but cant find a good solution that could convince myself.

What about a magnet secured to the inside of the body that a magnet can stick to from the outside?

Me too. 2023 XLT SR. First drive after delivery, got to my Mom's house on a 60 mile drive, the charge door was frozen closed.

I think you are a savant. I'm struggling to be consistent at all with opening or closing.

The hair dryer did the trick. I left the door open while I moved the truck to my charger and you’re right, it works.
Yes, a regular hair dryer did the trick. Actually, it was my wife's Audi eTron that took a bunch of hot air to open the charging port. On the Lightning my charging port was fine. The Lightning charge port door is a much beter design than the Audi eTron door. I did need the dryer to clear the ice so the Frunk would open.
