Seeing the photos of the Cybertruck post explosion it showed at least one fuel can and a bunch of other flammable stuff in the bed. I’m thinking the battery pack didn’t go off at all.

A five gallon pale of racing fuel along with four 1 gallon cans, maybe another fuel like small engine pure gas, loaded along side multiple fireworks, no responsible person would carry such a combination volatile materials in the back of a vehicle.

I completely agree with you. The perp used petroleum based accelerants and fireworks, total amateur. I don’t think the battery was involved at all in that initial explosion, , but I have only seen short clips, not the full scene. It takes time for the batteries to start cooking, but when they do, it is a chain reaction and sounds like popcorn....

I am going to ignore this thread after this post. Social media discussions about news like this have no positive contribution. Nobody has facts, and it has nothing to do with the subject matter of this forum. Debate as to what is the best vehicle to cause the most or least carnage only provides information to those that seek to cause it, since all content is indexed and is public. And forum owners benefit by ad views as the content is discussed.

Our society today is too accepting of acts like this, with inadequate punishment. Protection from crazies is impossible, yet non-experts will debate it over and over.

No thanks.

Don’t be sorry. There are similar threads on every forum I frequent, it’s the nature of the internet.

It's actually pretty encouraging that the battery pack didn't go off at all even with an explosion in the bed.

And it's pretty discouraging how easily people are radicalized these days.

The CT bed looks to have done a pretty good job of containing/channelling that blast. The bed sides are mostly intact. The battery did not cook off (otherwise it would be just a frame with very little left in the bed). For a truck that has its bumper fall off from towing too much, this one did a remarkable job of not failing structurally.

I am going to "unfollow" this discussion as well. Thinking of starting a "How to extend the life of the battery" discussion instead, since we barely touch that topic. Or one like "My range in the winter is bad, should I take the truck to the dealer"

One way to avoid reducing life of the battery or range is to refrain from carrying explosives in bed.

The driver shot himself before blowing up the truck (probably with a timer).

Looks like CT is not as tough as VW but Tesla still may use this incident as an ad for CT.

As someone from Middle East that drives an EV truck, I think my ranking on FBI watch list may have been elevated a bit after this past few weeks. On a lighter note, and before the thread gets wiped out, I have to share this. I just love this dude:

One interesting tidbit of information that I found watching the news is that the fire department used a (huge)fire blanket to cover the cyber truck and put out the fire! I ordered a couple off of Amazon after installing my powerwall 3, Just in case! I did not know they made them big enough to cover a vehicle.
