Dashcam Recommendation?

I see there are a couple of options available from Ford rewards- dashcam w rear facing bundle (sku: VHL3z19g490k) and the 4k ultra HD dashcam (VNL3Z19G490D); has anyone had these installed? Thoughts/do they hold up against other options on Amazon etc?
Also are they something I could install myself?

FitCamX seems to lose the date/time if not checked with the app, say, once a week. About 4 hours of record time with the 64GB, so do not delay downloading a video if needed. The videos are set for 1 minute each.

Viofos don't forget the date and time... Yes it is easy to install. I wouldn't buy the garbage thinkware that Ford offers.

I do. You just need to go to the car’s phone list and turn off CarPlay before connecting.

Just finished tidying up the wiring for my G900 Pro. Removing that panel up by the rear view mirror sure is rough on cold fingers. One negative I've found so far is that I have it positioned so I can turn the screen off and just use it like a regular rear view mirror which makes it a bit difficult to focus with the screen on since you have the reflection in addition to the digital feed. Definitely nice having a digital rear view especially if someone is sitting in the middle seat though. And the driver's mirror no longer dims which was expected since the sensor is being blocked.

Well here's another good sample from my Fitcamx, from yesterday morning's commute (trimmed down to 6 seconds for the youtube clip) - I don't know what this object was that hit my front bumper, seems to have come out of nowhere... any ideas?

Looks like a tiny alien ship materializes out of nowhere and flies into your bumper. Unfortunate for them.

Even slowing the video down, I can't tell what that is. Bird? Tennis ball? UFO?

I have replayed it at least 30 times and can't figure it out, so strange that it seems to appear from the middle of the road rather than coming out of one of the trees...

It was 6:40am on a rural road and about 25F so it's not like someone was standing near the side of the road and threw something - unless this was revenge for my youth when we used to throw snowballs at passing cars!

So how many of you have a FitCamX that has died? Mine just stopped working, not exactly sure when. But I try to check it with my phone every week or two. And as also reported in this thread, it would lose date and time often. It’s been dead for a bit now and I’ve been contemplating ordering a replacement since I already have the wire run for the rear camera and it be a quick swap out. But now I’m contemplating that WolfBox one, maybe a Viofo.

There seems to be rumors that Ford could enable camera recording via software in the near future. Also a companion rumor that it would be tied to a subscription like BlueCruise and connectivity. Not going to hold my breath for that to happen, we all know the speed the software gets new features.
