Do I need a HVB module replacement?

Started the truck yesterday and saw output power reduced to 57% and a dashboard message of "Service Vehicle Soon". Plugged in last night to charge, and woke up to find there was a charging fault and it stopped at 65% SoC. Tried replugging in, but charging fault persists. Turned on truck and power is still reduced to 57%. Fordpass app says "Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power." Got the earliest service appointment I could, which is next week. Can I drive it in the meantime? I don't mind driving at 57% power, but it will be a problem if I can't charge.

Looking for anyone who has had similar experience. Is this the HVB module replacement that takes weeks for the dealer to get done? Would like to know because I have trips planned...

Sounds like the exact symptoms I had. And yes it ended up being one of the battery modules. You can drive it but it won't AC charge. I didn't try but some folks said they could do a DCFC in this state.

If you haven't already you can read all about this on the main thread. It will likely answer a lot of your questions (warning 43 pages long).

EDIT, if you have Car Scanner or Forscan, post the DTCs you have. That will tell you for sure. And in Car Scanner you can see your HVB voltage variation. All of this is in the main thread.

Thanks - I skimmed some of that thread and found a range of different experiences. Some folks just needed the 12v battery connections tightened. Others needed a module replacement - in some cases that took just a couple weeks and in others it took months. I hope I'm not in that last set.

Thanks - I skimmed some of that thread and found a range of different experiences. Some folks just needed the 12v battery connections tightened. Others needed a module replacement - in some cases that took just a couple weeks and in others it took months. I hope I'm not in that last set.
That's pretty clearly a battery issue. They'll do a Pinpoint test, then order the components they need, which will take about a week. Then a few days of work. But... right now they cannot update the PCM software for the powertrain after the work is done, so it will sit until "June" when the software is available.

Mine is on the lift right now.

That's pretty clearly a battery issue. They'll do a Pinpoint test, then order the components they need, which will take about a week. Then a few days of work. But... right now they cannot update the PCM software for the powertrain after the work is done, so it will sit until "June" when the software is available.

Mine is on the lift right now.
What is the PCM software and why is it not available until "June"?

Powertrain Control module. Software was broken by Ford 2 weeks ago, and has to be redone. In the meantime, no updates of that module are permitted. Their forecast is "June". Yes, that's not specific.

More symptoms to report. Since AC charging doesn't work at all, bmwhitetx suggested DCFC might work, so I gave that a try. It technically works, but not really. Went to an EA station and tried two different plugs. In both cases the rate started at about 22kWh, then crept up to 30, then fell back about 8kWh. So my next call is to the dealer to see if they can take it today in the hopes that they can squeeze me in sooner like if they have a cancellation or something.

Right, you basically can't charge. Luckily I was at 90% when it happened. I used it while waiting for an opening. Down to 37% when I dropped it off.

Lucky they don’t need to flash that module to do the module replacement. I just got mine back today and it wasn’t needed.

Has your dealer confirmed they will hold the truck until "June" or have you convinced them to let you have it and you'll bring it back in "June"?
Lucky they don’t need to flash that module to do the module replacement. I just got mine back today and it wasn’t needed.
I have not convinced them yet.

Around 9 days or so. The work takes a solid day but the parts can take from 7 to 14 days to arrive.

That's promising news. I'm still reading through the 42-page main thread on this and the folks who had this happen back in Jan 2023 were waiting for months. If the past year has improved their turnaround time that much for this issue I'll consider myself lucky.
