I had my charge port replaced by Ford and now it has a visible magnet to hold the cover over the DC pins. I don’t remember seeing this before. Is this a new design?

Both my Mach-E and my Lightning seem to be magnetic (just checked), BUT there is nothing visible like yours.

That does not look OEM. That looks like it's been added after the fact or something. That rough non-uniform area around the "magnet" does not look like it was molded like the rest of the plastic.

It is possible that either during assembly or during installation someone put in that piece of plastic backward and we are looking at what is suppose to be the back of it. As is, with repeated use that piece of metal/magnet may come out. Unless it is actually a redesign and back of the magnet is secured well.

p.s. If the right side is magnetic and covered, the left side plastic cover must have been popped out or worn off. It should be easy to test

Agree this does not look factory. Looks like the dealer tech had to repair/make do with what he was sent or broke.

Could have been a defect when the plastic piece was molded to have a cavity for the magnet.
To prevent the magnet from possibly falling out when the cover is opened, you could put a thin dab of clear adhesive over it.

On my truck the magnet(s) is/are hidden (feels like there is one on each side):

BTW, what happened to the original charge port that required replacement?

When I opened my charge port I noticed ALL the light segments on the charging level indicator circle are lit as the picture shows. Never noticed that before. The truck is NOT 100% charged.

Hmmm....I guess, even though it is broad daylight the lights lit as "a courtesy light to help with plugging in and to acknowledge actions such as plugging in and unplugging." Go figure.

Seems Ford has changed the CCS cover on the 2024 Flash model (likely all 2024s).

They don't appear to use a magnet, but instead have rubber cups that go over the pin locations to hold the cover in place.

Noticeable when you go to open the CCS cover as it feels more snug.

All the slots between the pin receptacles is interesting too. Better liquid drainage?

There was a coolant leak and they replaced the port to be safe.
Wow, that's something.

HV battery coolant I presume?

Just a random out-of-the-blue leak not the result of accident or anything?

That deserves a thread if so.

I had my truck in for the battery sensor recall and the tech noticed the coolant reservoir was empty. They traced the leak and found some coolant in the charge port so they replaced it when repairing the leak.
