Did my 4th PMI (Not Original Module) on the IPC and it worked! No more DTC's! Did have PCM (had error several times when downloading) and DSM (that I won't touch after my stuck running boards) updates that showed up. Up to date otherwise and no DTCs!

Been following this forum since I order my 2021 f150 lariat in March of 2021. Truck was built on July 9th 2021 so job 1. Still on the original sync version 20312. According to the android widget, I am stuck on the 1.7.1 update. I have an appointment with Ford service on Thursday. After reading about other interactions, I fully expect to be told there is nothing they can do. I would like to try to update the modules using the FDRS procedures laid out by the forum members. I see most are successful, I was wondering do the procedures using FDRS actually repair the failed update or must I wait until Ford decides how to fix the broken update before attempting to update the modules? Thanks for all your work.

I honestly don't know if anyone knows for sure Ford's near future plans for addressing the trucks that are "stuck" and not receiving OTA.
I also don't know how precise anyone can predict exactly what manual update(s) is required to remedy being stuck. Besides, if you do go through the efforts to self-address even ONE module update, you may as well do the others that are available.

Thanks for the reply. I understand that if I should update all the modules available for update but I was wondering if anyone has successfully updated beyond 1.71 using the FDRS software after it failed via fords OTA? Thanks again

The good news for the person who just found this thread and finds it DAUNTING to consider digesting 1115 posts before diving in....... Iceman has done a fantastic job of editing post #1 with basically everything needed to jump in the water. :)

If you want to just stick your feet in you could spend $50 for a 2 day license and do nothing but log into FDRS and look up the status of your truck. You'll see all updates available as well as any historical efforts of the dealership or others addressing your truck.

You can do all that without buying any hardware or even plugging into your truck.

You could also do a screenshot or printout to arm yourself with evidence that you're an informed customer when/if it's appropriate at a service department. :)

I think you will find that is exactly what brought some to the point of doing this themselves.

There are many that have gotten past the stuck 1.7.1 Ota failure to include myself. I am now on the latest that is out there all by following this thread and working things out with people on here. I would say most people that came here to get unstuck are now in the front when it comes to the latest and greatest updates.

I have been in the same boat as you, more or less. Just watching here what is working or not. Your looking at a minimum of $150 to do this ($100 for the Nano tool, $50 for a 2 day FDRS license), assuming you have a USB stick and a battery tender. I worked on it this past weekend. In my experience, its really pretty easy if you follow the how-to document, until you get to the APIM USB update. All bets are off at that point. It may or may not read the USB depending on its mood at any given time. I'm on day 3 and it still hasn't read it. Therefore, I'll need to spend another $50 if I want to update further, or wait to see if that one update gets it over the "OTA hump".

Yea, that APIM update can be baffling.
Incredible inconsistencies between trucks.

Thanks. I have been following this thread since it started and I have printouts to take to the dealer with me. I was just waiting to see if Ford would fix the problem. I will see see what they say when I take it in thursday and then I will jump in with both feet.

I was able to update all modules available but can’t seem to get mine past the 2.1.1 . But maybe that’s the newest for mine currently. 1FTFW1E89MFA46118

I got passed 1.7 using the Nano and following Post# 1 / Bob's Doc as a guide.
Had the battery charger on the whole time on 10amps and when the update called for starting the truck I just switched to 20amps on the charger. I took my time, did one update, shut everything down, waited 10-15, than checked again until all were done saving the APIM for last. That took 2 different USB's and 3 tries and finally kicked off.
I figured money well spent and a great learning experience. Sold my Nano and now upgrading to the Mongoose to do more and maybe help a few locals.

Can’t tell you guys how much I appreciate all the advice. Almost makes me hope ford doesn’t fix it so I can take a shot. I keep a battery tender connected to my truck (I’m old and don’t drive as much as I use to) and have everything necessary except the Nano or Mongoose and the software.
