Interesting. I’ve been under the impression that the switch to NACS was within the truck itself. The original Ford press release says that pretty explicitly (quoted below). Plans must have changed…

  • In 2025, Ford will offer next-generation electric vehicles with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector built-in, eliminating the need for an adapter to access Tesla Superchargers

That WAS the intention, but the market & economy had other plans, Ford has regrouped since that publication was issued.

Nothing about the current Lightning is "next generation". Think T3.

Or, maybe with the ICE truck redesign and T3 launch continually being delayed, we might end up a few changes. The trick tailgate and a NACS port would be cool

When it was 2K I think it was worth it to take the cash, but now that it’s 1K it’s more cost effective to take the charger and installation. I don’t think you can get both for less than 1K unless you do the installation yourself. Of course take the cash if you already have a charger or hate the Ford charger.
I don't think it can be justified at $1k. The Ford charger is the last one anyone would buy given the 10 most popular options. If your panel is within 20' of where you need the charger there is no way the charger and install are worth $1K. Take that cash, buy a good EVSE/charger and have it installed yourself.

My charger was installed 5ft from the main panel, $900 for Qmerit + $200 to the city. Seems like the charger + install would have been the better deal in my area. Probably worth getting a quote before deciding.

I paid $1500 for a relatively simple installation. I am fairly confident that I could have done it myself, but I chose to go through Qmerit and, therefore, knew I would be paying more. The process was very smooth and I hope done professionally.... .

If Ford wants to build participation and expand use, they would provide the complimentary charger for all low-mileage Lightnings; and maybe, forego the extra installation benefit. I bought mine (2023 Platinum) from a Ford dealer (9000+ mi) but corporate Ford would not provide the complimentary charger gratis. So the dealer coughed up the $1400 for the unit since that was a prime understanding for the deal.. And the captive contractor that provides the installation (Sunrun) doesn't provide it in my state. Oh, and where is my Tesla charging adapter promised in October. Currently, I'm looking into the GMC EV trucks since their range is 30%+ better.
